Located in the village area near the wharf on Horn Island, this hotel is conveniently located and a short walk to the local supermarket or other restaurants in the area. The rooms are a little dated; however, they were clean and comfortable. The bedding and bathroom linen was comfortable and the rooms have air conditioning and fans. For those who want to prepare snacks in the room, a large fridge, microwave, cutlery, toaster, and dishwashing material is provided. Breakfast is included in the room rate and consists of a cereal selection, fresh fruit, cheeses, spreads, and bread for toasting or eating fresh (and it was very fresh).

Comfortable, clean room with plenty of refreshments, tea and coffee. Gorgeous pool for a relaxing dip after a hot day exploring the Torres Strait Islands. The restaurant menu had surprisingly good variety and the meals were really delicious, well presented with generous portions.

We stayed 2 nights here and it’s a walk back in time. The rooms haven’t changed since the 60s but they are clean. No money has been spent on them apart from a new large white fridge. The curtains were threadbare. The hosts are pleasant and helpful when they are around. The meals (no choice) are tasty and the wine reasonably priced. The pool was clean and the museum interesting. My biggest complaint was the double bed. Very soft mattress which gave my husband and myself a sore back.

Lovely clean, spacious rooms with a little porch on the front with a table and chairs. Nice large tidy dining room and bar area. Highly recommend. They also run tours of the island which is an experience.

Make the effort to get to Horn Island stay a night at the Gateway Hotel which offers basic & clean accommodation.
The accommodation food & beer prices are not important! Take the full tour approx 2 hours. What a fantastic & informative history tour Vanessa provides for her quests. It should not to be missed.Vanessa has devoted much of her life to develop a wonderful museum within the Hotel. Illustrating the history of the island & the important part it played in the defense of Australia in World War 2.
She has volunteered her own labour & financial support in helping restore many of the relics that remain on the island.

A real bush hotel in the remote Thursday Islands It is a short boat trip to Thursday Island with all its HISTORY. The two museum on both Islands are a must. A lot of history here. Take the time to have a good look around of Early Australia as it was.

Resort was a much cheaper alternative than Thursday Island accommodation and you can catch a ferry to Thursday Island in 15 to 20 minutes, for very little. Staff met us at the wharf and during our 4 day stay were always helpful and obliging. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff here - nothing. Our 3 children, their partners, and our 5 year old grandson (total of 8 of us) could not fault this resort. The accommodation might be dated but it is very clean and no other accommodation in this part of the world is going to be any better. Food was great and reasonably priced. Plenty to do - fishing gear supplied, relaxing in the pool, tours arranged by staff, museum, pool tables, darts, and great base to travel to other islands. We absolutely loved the place.

The QANTAS flight lands on Horn and from an accommodation point of view you are limited for choice. That said, I am glad that I stayed at Gateway and not on Thursday Island because the staff are amazing, the dinner buffet is less than $30.00 and you will not go hungry or be disappointed.
The rooms are quite dated but they are big and comfortable, the jetty is only a 3 minute walk and there is a great cafe around the corner. This place surprised me, it was not at all what I expected when I arrived but I enjoyed my stay. There is a fantastic museum on site that covers everything from the rich TSI culture to the war involvement. Emily on the front counter is absolutely lovely and gives a good run down on the island on the trip from the airport.
