I would be very careful price goes up when checking out, when booking, price higher, not initially agreed on booking.com!!! If there was an issue they should have notified you in advance. Accommodation is reasonable but not a friendly hotel if anything they have no time for welcoming their guest .

I was staying at Carlton hotel mumbles for 3 nights September 2022
Staff is extremely kind and my room.a double was spacious with a comfortable bed and very clean
Breakfast also typical Welsh breakfast is available at discounted price at a very near bar and there is a vast choice of nearby restaurants too.
The hotel has got a very nice view on mumbles Bay and not far from the town Beaches of Gower peninsula are easy to reach as well
At ground floor there is a nice pub open every day frequented by.customers and locals
I enjoyed my stay straight in the heart of mumbles and I.would love to come back
Thank.you Carlton hotel

I was delighted to find a hotel where we could take our two dogs. The lady I spoke to on the phone was polite and helpful and very accommodating regarding our late arrival. The room was small but adequate and we were grateful for the french style windows which we could open - a bonus in the recent heat. The room was at the back of the hotel and up several floors, which wasn't much fun getting to with dogs and luggage. I enjoyed the large mugs provided for making our own tea, and the shower pressure was great. I found the paper bathmats provided useless and had to use a towel instead. The loo cistern ran all night and the room isn't sound-proofed: I could hear our neighbours nightime activities well into the night, along with a television sound blasting from an opposite building. I was on the point of looking for another hotel. It was very hot (the heatwave) and the hotel had clearly had a delivery of fans, which an employee was putting together. I asked if we could have a fan, please, for our room, but I was told I'd have to wait until he'd finished putting the whole lot together. I don't know if he's still doing this as the fan never arrived. Parking was an issue. We were lucky as we managed to get street parking, but again, lugging cases, dog beds and pets back and forth from various places was not something we relished. There is no breakfast provided, but that's not a problem as there are plenty of nice places to choose from. The room wasn't serviced - the hotel wasn't that cheap and I would pay more for better quality and the ability to sleep next time

Arrived 19th August with wife. Checked in at reception with the friendly staff. Arrived in room 36 and was shocked at the cleanliness of the room. Bed sheets covered in hairs, very questionable stains on wall next to Bed, towel rack filthy, toilet filthy, carpet grubby, sink dirty, nose mucus on curtain, cramped bathroom, loose floor tile in bathroom that could easily injure your bare foot, should you dare walk bare footed here, door would not lock and when mentioned to the owner he knew about it.
The furniture looked as if it come from charity shop, especially the metal bed and bent cheesy curtain pole above the clothes cupboard.
The crowning glory for me was on departure when I saw the clean folded towels and bed sheets outside in the corridor awaiting to be placed in either our room or another room on the same floor. These towels were not on a trolley or anything, as you would expect, instead they were actually on the corridor floor, now that's some filthy s**t.
This hotel is a disgrace at over 100 pounds a night, should a trip advisor review was mandatory by every single guest, this place would be finished.
I did get a discount on my departure that paid for my parking ticket I received, however the discount should have been a free night , instead of a lump off.
It's not all negative though, the staff are friendly, the breakfast is nice, however for less money you could get a very nice b and b that's clean and fresh.
Hotel could be great with some work, as location is superb.

Booked this hotel after looking at photos online. The photos are not a true representation of what they actually look like. When booking i opted for a deluxe room with a sea view. Although we had a sea view i feel like we did not have a deluxe room. Online the deluxe rooms have a bay window so id assumed that that's what we would get but we didn't i was very disappointed.

The room itself was very unclean, their were cobwebs in every corner and on the wardrobe, the skirting boards were thick with dust, open shower gel packet in the shower and the carpet was bitty and grubby. Normally i wouldn't write a review but with the current covid situation id of expected i high level of cleanliness. If these things weren't cleaned then what else wasn't cleaned adequately?

I payed £250 for two nights with an extra £20 for our pet so, as you can imagine i was very upset. To charge this amount and not care about the service you provide is disappointing. We decided to cut our trip short and leave after one night. What a waste of money.

Be very careful when trying to book at this hotel. I made this mistake back in April/May for a booking in early June. I checked all the room details several times before confirming the booking (I wanted twin beds) and the room details noted that there was a choice of double bed or 2 singles. Once I confirmed the hotel contacted me and said there was no choice (double bed only) and I would have to upgrade to a more expensive room. I explained this was not what was on the booking site - the woman was quite rude, basically called me a liar, and told me I'd just have to upgrade. No mention of them correcting the information on the website. Next, although the booking was to be paid for at the time of stay, the hotel did in fact charge the full cost of the stay to my credit card on 19th May, 2021, some 3 weeks before the booking was due (this is hidden in the fine print!). There was a free cancellation period associated with the booking and I cancelled on the 25th May, well within this time period. I received my next credit card bill and there was no refund. I decided there was probably insufficient time and it would surely be on my next statement. WRONG! it has been over 5.5 weeks and there is still no sign of my refund. To add insult to injury, I have tried several times to contact the hotel, both by phone and by email. The phone call goes to a voicemail that refers to another telephone number (not the one I dialled which is the publicized number on the internet and every site I found the hotel) the emails have received no response. I am still waiting for some one from this hotel to have the common courtesy to contact me and advise when my refund will be processed. In the absence of any response, I feel I have no alternative but make sure everyone else out there is aware of what they will have to deal with when they take the risk of making a booking at this hotel. Stay away!

This is not an hotel it’s just rooms!
The website indicates that it includes breakfast but apparently they haven’t served breakfast for two years!
The only positive thing to say is that the room was clean!
After that it is overpriced at £105 per night for a room that is nothing more than basic. The shower has the wrong hose fitted so it leaked and did not fit in the bracket so hung down like a dying swan!
They were unable to provide us with bottled water despite there being a bar downstairs.
If you needed anything someone from that bar strolled in to speak to you.
Needless to say we stayed out as much as possible, thank God the weather was good!
Would not recommend.

We booked a deluxe room with breakfast, wow what can i say nothing positive we arrived 2.30pm the hotel was closed we were told by the neighbours its only open as and when?! Luckily a member of staff did appear to say oh you’re lucky you caught me, we were given our room key, informed that they didnt do food ? Breakfast is advertised as included on their cards, stair carpets covered in bits, got to our room it was absolutely disgusting, bathroom dirty and old the radiator was more rust that paint the hot water tap broke, carpets all frayed , doors scratched line something had been locked in trying to get out, tatty shelf to make cup of tea on over a radiator was dreadful, we travelled 4 hours to get here no hot water so we slept the one night and returned home just couldn’t stay there, no apology given, no help from booking.com falsely advertised dont waste your money it was terrible

It was a lovely stay here. As a hotel, it’s location is excellent to be able to visit everything Mumbles and the Gower has to offer.

The staff were pleasant both on reception and with the bar give the COVID-19 restrictions.

If you’re looking for a place to stay where you’ll spend a lot of time it’s probably to basic for that.

But if you’ll be out exploring most of the time then this is more than suitable.

COVID-19 restrictions meant we didn’t get a cooked breakfast but had continental that was delivered to the room. It wasn’t great but appreciate it was tricky with the rules that were in place.

There is no on site parking so you’ll need to pay for parking which is opposite the hotel. About £6 for a day.

We were really unimpressed with this hotel. Firstly there is no parking ,except for a possible space outside and then paying spaces across the road. Unfortunately the parking spaces are full and you have to drive up and down to find a space. The space we found was 100yds away so had to carry our luggage to the hotel.
Inside the hotel our room was up two flights of stairs and down another. There was no handrail on the third. Our room looked ok but we realised it was very damp. All the bedclothes felt damp and after 3 days our clothes had begun to smell.

All the surfaces, felt sticky and could have done with a wipeover.

The television had only 1 working channel , we asked about but was told it's normal for here!

The bar did not have any lager on tap so only expensive cans, our second glass of Pinot Grigio came pink and sparkling.

There is no lounge, just a room which acts as a corridor between the bar and the rest of the hotel, and has bikes pieces of wood as part of the decor. The corridors are littered with window frames step ladders and other builders stuff.

The location is fine the food ok and the water was hot.

For the price we thought it was rubbish and very disappointing.

Hi, when I stayed I had no problem with Hygiene or dirty linen, my room was quiet but it was at the back and looked out of a rock face a couple of metrrs away. I believe a lot of the negative comments related to the Hotel before it was refurbished. All in all I would use the Hotel again, but don't expect all the trimmings of a lavish hotel ... yo0u get what you pay for. Hope this helps

Unfortunately, if you look at the running of the good reviews, they are from at least two years ago. The terrible reviews are far more current. In my opinion, it looks like the hotel has had a change of ownership and was good under the previous regime, but it's appalling under the new. Stay somewhere else.
