We visited Vienna for the first time and were debating whether we should stay at the Hotel Imperial Vienna (which was palatial and historic), or the Ritz Carlton (which exudes modern luxury). We decided on staying at the Imperial and thank goodness we did! It was our home for 5 nights. Everyone we encountered were pleasant and eager to assist....

We visited the 1873 Bar in the Imperial on a Friday night after seeing Mozart's Symphony Orchestra Performance across the road at the Golden Ballroom. We must have been in luck as there were two high back chairs positioned opposite a grand piano, which I can honestly say had one of the best Pianists I have heard in my life,...

My first time back in more than 11 years and this time as a family with our two little girls. The entire experience was not shortcoming of any previous visits. From the time of arrival to the time of departure the entire staff made my two little girls feel like princesses in a fairy tale; what more can a father...

Magnificent hotel, comparable to some other big old institutions in Europe, such as George V or Bristol in Paris. Rooms with high ceilings, decorated in traditional, Viennese style. Very comfortable beds. Welcoming and attentive service.

We felt like we were transported back in time to the Victorian era. Beautifully preserved old style hotel. The rooms are humongous. We felt like royalty. Centrally located. The pastries and desserts served in the cafe was very good. The service also is top class. Overall worth the money .

I have stayed at Imperial quite a few times already. They have been quite consistent, good service and value. The hotel is close to the concert hall and opera house, just a short walk away and lots of good restaurants close by. Another good stay.

Location is impeccable, ten steps out the bar exit gets you into the Musikverein! Ten steps gets you back into the bar for a drink or a light meal. Walk anywhere you want to go in the city in 15 minutes or less - that includes Demel or Sacher if you are so inclined. Outstanding hotel, yet staff does not...

The bar here, called '1873 – HalleNsalon', is a fantastic place to have drinks on your evening out! An opulent hotel hall has been transformed into a magnificent bar, the kind where you can have a leisurely drink. The nibbles are tasty and the drinks are mixed perfectly. Try a Bellini or, my favourite, an Amaretto Sour!

My friend and I booked a deluxe room in the Imperial hotel for a weekend break. We arrived and found the reception to be very friendly and were taken to the room. The hotel certainly steeped in history and very ornate staircases and chandeliers leading to the rooms. On arriving to our room we found a double bed instead of...

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
