Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Skuggi Hotel and what a wonderful stay it was. Check in was very efficient and friendly as was the wonderful Monica who worked in the bar, wow she was funny, knowledgeable and the most interesting person when you got talking to her. Back to the check in, the staff were all friendly and if you needed any information whatsoever they were only too happy to help and give you an informative map showing you where to go etc. The breakfasts were outstanding, you had everything there to set you up for the day. Boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, salami, all sorts of bread, croissants, muffins, cereals etc, etc, etc. If anyone complains about their breakfasts then there is something wrong with you! There was a well stocked bar which we sampled the local lagers/pale ale especially during their happy hour (4-7pm). We met some lovely people from the USA, Holland and our homeland the UK and of course Monica was there making you laugh and joining in making everyone feel so welcome. Our room was lovely (room 210) it wasn’t the largest of rooms but it had everything we needed, the bed was so comfortable as were the pillows, so needless to say we slept extremely well. It was cleaned to a high standard with tea/coffee restocked everyday. We overlooked the street and although we could hear noise it wasn’t excessive. The bathroom was very modern with a walk in shower complete with a heated towel rail at one end. The hotel is in an ideal spot, central to everything. So your question to me is: Would i stay/recommend this hotel? Absolutely, yes yes yes!

Hotel's Favourite
The rooms were comfortable, clean, and quiet. The staff went out of their way to be helpful, and the location is great. What really sets this place apart , though, is the breakfast. Alin and his team prepared and amazing smorgasbord that is gluten and dairy free friendly. They constantly renewed the food so it was fresh and plentiful. They looked like they were so happy to see people enjoying the food such. We would stay here on our return trip, but it's already booked, so be sure to plan ahead!

Just came back from a 3 night stay at this beautiful hotel. Honestly couldn't fault at all, the staff were excellent, the breakfast was plentiful, delicious and lots of choice, eggs, bacon, porridge, pancakes, pastries (which any leftovers where left at the bar for guests to enjoy the rest of the day). The room was gorgeous, really cosy and warm, the bathroom had plenty of clean towels on a heated towel rail. It's one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in after 30 years of travelling.

Breakfast was a 10/10 every morning. Due to Covid restrictions, you do have to schedule what time you will be coming down. For food options there was a variety of breads and pastries, eggs, bacon, toppings, meats and cheeses, oatmeal, yogurt and more toppings. For drink, they had juice, water, and coffee. The rooms were tidy and the beds were super comfortable. The showers had great water pressure. We also always had clean towels and robes. Overall, the staff is always very nice and friendly and always happy to help. They were able to call us a taxi and make reservations for us at local restaurants. The happy hour was great and Monika is the best bar tender ever!! Thank you for a great first experience to Iceland, Skuggi Hotel!

I have travelled to Iceland many times and when in Reykjavik often stay at the Skuggi hotel. The staff are super friendly and professional and will go out of their way to assist you. The buffet breakfast is excellent although they do need to enforce breakfast slots during covid better and stop mainly American and Chinese guests from taking food from the buffet out of the hotel as this increases costs for other guests. The hotel is probably one of the best located for excursion pick ups (bus stop 9) is 1 min away around a corner! The hotel is also located a 2 min walk from the start of the main shopping street in Reykjavik (come out of hotel turn right, then walk along and take next left and then right) you’ll be at the start of all the shops etc. hotel is also 1 street away from local swimming pools/geothermal outdoor heated pool on roof which is worth a visit and less than £10! hotel is very clean and nicely decorated, rooms are good standard but they could do with a little more clothes storage. Also in my last room there was only one ply socket the kettle cord could reach which isn’t ideal. I’d advise checking which room you have as you don’t want a corner room or once facing the road as although not too busy the buses do start early and can wake you up. I gave a lower score for sleep as I also got woken up by people showering at 1am after a northern lights tour I assume to warm up but guests should have more consideration for other people and not shower at 1am! However if you get a room facing the courtyard or back of hotel there should be no noise. The hotel can arrange taxis and excursions for you if asked.
