I received an email 9 days before arrival that I would not be able to stay at this hotel due to "unforeseen circumstances". On calling Hilton we were told there was a corporate buy out which is why we couldn't stay. We asked if we went to the hotel if there would be other guests and were told there wouldn't be any staff there. We then got in contact with the hotel directly via phone. My husband spoke to a member of staff who informed us to respond to the email directly as they don't deal with that area. When my husband asked can you tell us the reason why this has happened, we were hung up on. Just to clarify he wasn't being rude or aggressive in anyway and was just asking the question. We then responded to the email and were told that due to covid related reasons they have a large group occupying the hotel during our stay and were told there was an error in the phone system which is why we were hung up on. I then read in the review below about a gaming convention at the hotel and guests being moved. I understand errors can be made but I just feel this is a total mess and would just have appreciated a straight answer on what is going on. Being told different reasons from Hilton staff is poor. Holidays are extra special following the past couple of years and it sounds like many people have been let down here and at very short notice. When asked if there was even any compensation for this we were told to contact the hotel directly. Surely good customer service would be to arrange this rather than we have to chase this up as none of this was our doing. I have had this booked for months on end and as diamond member have been very loyal to Hilton and purposely worked up to Diamond for this stay so we can enjoy the executive lounge. As such we will now have to pay out more for food and drinks as we wont be able to enjoy this. It is my birthday, our 10 year anniversary and we also became engaged in Iceland 5 years ago and stayed at this hotel- so were very much looking forward to it. In the view of trying to have some objectivity my memories of the hotel at that time were it was very enjoyable with no complaint. I will taking this further and just not what I expect from a corporation such as Hilton.…
We stayed here in the first instance because few hotels were open due to COVID, though I previously stayed here in 2012. We stayed in a Queen Executive Plus room. It was reasonably spacious for a European hotel. The bathroom was a bit small. There was daily service, which is not guaranteed at other hotels during COVID. The only problem with the room is the ventilation. There is clearly something amiss with the ventilation system in this hotel. Fortunately, the staff unlocked the window and gave us a fan so that we had air circulation. The bar area was nice. Like most other Hiltons, they are currently using a voucher system for the Executive Lounge, where you get 2 complimentary drinks per person at the bar plus a snack platter as the Lounge is closed. The spa was very nice, with indoor and outdoor hot tubs. The restaurant was a bit pricey with a limited menu and we really didn't eat there, except for breakfast. Breakfast was decent, but not amazing. The hotel was a 15 to 20 minute walk from downtown, giving you a bit of exercise each way but very manageable. There is also a strip mall a few minutes from the hotel, where you can get a quick, cheap (by Icelandic standards) meal. The real shining star here is the staff. All of the staff we dealt with were super friendly, helpful and professional. They are stars. We would specifically call out Andre in the bar. He is so friendly and helpful. Thank you to the staff for making our stay so pleasant.…
When I arrived the morning of October wanted to check in I was informed that they were moving me to another hotel due to health reasons. I was told they tried to contact me but I have no voicemails nor emails from the Hilton staff regarding this. Although I heard they were moving several peoples reservations to other hotels due to a gaming convention and they wanted to make room for those guests. Was told my room would be upgraded once I arrived at the other hotel, it wasn’t. They moved me to To a hotel where the noise makes it impossible to sleep and and I am here until October 8, not happy with Hilton.
The staffs handled very poorly on the overbooking part. I was moved to another Hilton hotel which is Canopy which is way better service from the staffs. The check in process was really good. The Front desk when checked in was really good.
We selected this hotel to begin our trip to Iceland and were not impressed by the service and the amenities. We had been guaranteed a double bed but were informed that it was not possible. Be prepared for basic rooms that are quite small. The most problematic item was being charged double for the room. I have filed a dispute with the credit card company. Recommend getting a printed copy of your receipt.
