Reviews summary

Nestled in a coveted central location, Apotek Hotel by Keahotels is lauded for its ease of access to city highlights and public transport. Guests have called out the hotel's staff for their commendable service that significantly enriches the visitor experience. While the rooms are deemed comfortable and clean, with quality amenities, some guests have mentioned they can be on the smaller side with a few experiencing issues like poor drainage.
The atmosphere is generally praised for its tranquility, though noise from nightlife is occasionally noted. The cleanliness, especially with Molton Brown products, earns rave reviews, yet some travelers suggest looking elsewhere for better value due to the extra costs for breakfast and early check-in.

Hotel's Favourite
This is our second time staying at Apotek and we can’t say enough good things about it. Everyone there is incredibly friendly and helpful. The restaurant/bar is fantastic. The rooms are so comfortable and cozy- plus the shower is one of the best in a hotel that I’ve experienced!
We stayed last year for our wedding with several members of our family and friends. Everyone had the same great experience. This year we stayed for our 1 year anniversary. I had asked if they could recommend a bakery to order a cake to help us celebrate. They went above and beyond and not only found a great bakery, but actually ordered it for us and had it delivered to the hotel. The morning our our anniversary they set up a celebratory table with a card wishing us a happy anniversary, and of course, the delicious cake.
We can’t wait to spend more visits with Apotek- we wouldn’t stay anywhere else!

I loved the shower, rainfall shower with a heated towel rail and lovely Molten Brown toiletries. It’s a great location right in the center of the city with loads of bars, supermarkets and restaurants nearby, it was also ideal for pickup location for the tours we booked. I thought the coffee machine in the room was a nice touch. We also made good use of the fridge in the room. The hotel bar is also really nice for a cocktail.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
We were 9 friends that were visiting Iceland for 10 days. The first two days we spent at the delightful Apotek Hotel. Apparently the building once housed the largest pharmacy or apotek in Iceland. Our room (#201) was small but it had everything we could possible need - phone, flat TV, safe, refrigerator, desk, hairdryer etc. The bed was comfortable and the bedside light was good.
An attractive and ample breakfast buffet was included. It contained a wonderful selection of breads, and even heart shaped waffles. To my surprise a bottle of Cod Liver Oil was planted in the center of one of the tables. A soup spoon full of cod liver oil is something most Scandinavian children had to swallow every morning. It seems to be a cure for everything. Those children that were not traumatized by having to digest this oily substance, as adults they still include a shot with each breakfast.
It was required to wear rubber gloves while helping oneself to food from the buffet. Mask were worn by everybody while inside the hotel.
I commend the reception staff. They were helpful and friendly. All of us loved our stay at Apotek Hotel

We stayed in a standard room at the Apotek Wednesday to Saturday inclusive and the location is superb for bars, restaurants and the bus stops that tour operators will pick you up from. However, the room was disappointing as it only had a very small window so there wasn’t hardly any daylight or fresh air plus the room is very small, with the toilet only a short distance from the end of the bed so you get little privacy! Whilst this is probaly ok for a few days, the lack of sleep on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night due to the very loud music from the hotel bar wasn’t ok. This finished at 1am on Thursday and Friday and 3am on Saturday and when I contacted the front desk, they asked me to email the manager of the bar as the front desk’s requests fall on deaf ears. We were kindly moved to a Junior Suite on Saturday night, which is a great size and has big windows but the noise still made it very hard to nod off.

First the good... lovely location across the park from parliament and so near the heart of Reykjavik, restaurants, etc. Nice rooms, Nespresso coffee machine, black out curtains, thick doors for sound insulation, etc.
A few annoyances though. The front desk staff sent us, upon checkin, to park the car at what was described as across the street from City Hall, but ended up being under city hall, with a bit of a tricky entrance that we weren't told about. Later, the person at the desk admitted he'd never actually seen the entrance or the parking, he was just going by what he'd been told. No map was given or printed instructions. Truly a wasted hour at an inopportune time. Then the shower. Now I'm used to the fact that Europeans aren't fans of shower doors or curtains, so the water sprays all over the place, but this was a real treat. There were brackets for a glass wall partition separating the shower from the toilet, but the glass wall was missing. Then the soap/shampoo dispensers were placed at the other end of the room, so one had to walk to them while the shower was on for every squirt of soap/shampoo. A fairly small thing, but again, entirely avoidable. So overall a nice hotel, but they really need to consider the needs of the guests just a bit more.

This hotel is considerably in the most convenient location, and has all the best accommodations. The history alone is worth the stop at the Apotek. I suggest booking in advance to ensure a better chance at staying here longer, as they are very popular and book up fast (for good reason). The rooms are comfortable, and a standard is perfectly spacious for a solo traveler. I had one bed, side tables, window, chair, desk, table, tv, speaker and closet. The size of the bed is well worth the sacrifice of proximity to the bathroom. The bathroom has an open shower and, what I would consider, spacious and well equipped (hairdryer included). If the bathroom doesn't cut it, there's access to the hotels amazing spa to meet all your needs. The restaurant is also a must stop, as the food is absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is very classy. It definitely fills up in the evening and on weekends, as this location has a presence in Reykjavik's night life. Definitely an essential apart of experiencing the city.

This hotel is in a great location, on a fairly quiet square which also houses some pubs and a parliament building, next door to the Borg Hotel and very close to both Bus Stop 3 (where a lot of the organised trips pick up), as well as one of the main streets with bars and restaurants.
All through our stay, every staff member we met seeemed genuinely friendly and welcoming. We stayed for 4 nights in Room 403, had a fantastic time and lteraly fell into a very large and comfortable bed every night after long days travelling &/or walking round the many sights. The temperature in the room was fine, very little noise despite the very central location and the walk-in shower was really good with none of the localised flooding that we have sometimes experienced in the rest of the bathroom space. No kettle but a Nespresso machine with plenty of pods, some teabags and some creamer.
Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of fresh fruit, cheeses, meat, fish, various breads, waffles, pancakes and loads of baked goods, really enjoyed the Skyr with fresh fruit and teh smoked salmon! Only downside I can think of is the toaster wasn't great and took ages to get the bread even remotely browned, can't be very efficient! Didn't have an evening meal here, but it was very busy every night. All in all a fabulous break and though we may not return to Iceland for a while (having crammed in a lot into a short break), we would recommend staying here without hesitation.

This is a late review, but must send because I wanted anyone who is planning an Iceland holiday, this awesome hotel and restaurant is the place to stay. The rooms were spotless, modern, fab bathroom/shower, room safe and very comfortable beds and pillows. The location is walkable to restaurants, all types of shops, pubs and even a museum. In a major plaza near the hotel is a clear glass enclosure like a small modern green house, it's official name is "Herbarium" and it's open daily for visitors to enjoy the beautiful plants, herbs and flowers. There is no fee, the door is unlocked. The restaurant that is part of Apotek Hotel is very tasty, beautiful and very convenient, we enjoyed dinner on our first night and also the breakfast buffet in the mornings. A must for Iceland is a visit to the Perlan Museum, really very cool and exciting for all ages. A must is an extra add-onto your entrance ticket to include "Fly Over Iceland", it was totally "Wowie Fantabulous!" We are sure that everyone will really enjoy the friendly, relaxing atmosphere and wonderful Apotek staff. Run, don't walk to a Super-Duper place of lodging, The Apotek Hotel!

As you enter the small, but well presented box reception, you will be forgiven for thinking this is a standard no frills business hotel. You could not be further from the truth.
The rooms are well presented, with modern features such as minibar, bluetooth speakers, flat screen tv and a wonderful coffee machine. The bed is extremely comfortable, which is important after a long day. The bathrooms are large and light and contained a shower with excellent pressure.
The restaurant serves a variety of excellent dishes and also serves a full breakfast buffet in the morning. The bar is adjacent to the restaurant and is great for an evening drink.
Staff were very friendly.
Strongly recommend staying here. (Stayed in Dec 2019).

Great location. For the four nights we stayed there, we mostly used Apótek as a base so did not spend much time in the hotel itself. Lovely room and although facing onto the square, we were high enough not to hear noise. At 35eur per person, we opted to explore Reykjavík for breakfast instead which felt like the right choice as there’s plenty of options around! We did head into the restaurant one night but didn’t book for dinner so enjoyed a couple of cocktails which were fantastic. There is public parking outside and we were lucky enough to have a spot waiting for us each time we needed to park. One small criticism, and appreciate that this isn’t for everyone, but although the room had signs about being eco-conscious and would only swap towels if they were on the floor, we came back each day to a full set of new towels despite us following the sign. I’m okay with being given new towels, but don’t like the “eco-conscious” approach with signs but no follow through.
