We spent 3 nights in this nice hotel. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic but clean and modern. The beds are single beds pushed together, but they are comfortable and each has a quilt so no fighting over the duvet. The room was very warm with no air conditioning. We opened the window during the day so the room was cool enough for sleeping when we returned in the evening but it did get warm again during the night. The bathroom was beautiful with a fantastic shower. Bath mats would be a good addition as it is a wet room so the floor got wet. A multi purpose shower/shampoo is provided. There is no safe in the room. Breakfast is included and has a good selection of items. The hotel has a bar which is open until 1am and the prices are reasonable for Iceland. There is not much around the hotel but is only 20 mins walk from a lovely harbour town which had some good restaurants. The bus stop is behind the hotel and it is only a 40 min trip to Reykjavik.

The staff really make this hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We found our mattresses a little too soft and the staff were amazing and foung us replacements.
The room was large and airy. Shower had great water pressure and was so warm.
Breakfast had a good choice of fresh food.
The bus stop to get the number 1 bus into town was about 3 mins walk. The hotel staff were again great in giving advice on bus fares etc.
There is a Bonus supermarket just along from the hotel where you can get sandwiches etc for you day trips.
I would have out 5 stars but the location was a little far out for not having a car which meant that when we booked to see the northern lights we needed a taxi home as the last but had already left.

Hotel Vellir near Reykjavik is a good base from which to visit the city. The most outstanding thing was the helpfulness of the reception staff who managed our excursions which had to be moved due to bad weather. This hotel is a bit out of the way, but it’s quite easy to get the number 1 bus which takes you to downtown Reykjavík in about half an hour. I’d stay again at this hotel.

Bed: 4/10
This Hotel is only three or four years old, but run down like it was much older. It was very unclean; scratched walls from luggages, makes in the carpet and very unpleasant smell in the hallway. In our room, there was for example a 24 day old news paper. The beds were with one of the poorest quality mattresses that I have experienced, The only good thing about this hotel were the two loby people we met

Honestly I’d say there are only two things that let this place down, location and ice, now let me explain.

The location is rather remote relatively quiet (considering it’s a 20 minute drive to Reykjavík) with a beautiful view of mountains on one side. But unfortunately because of this, nearly none of the tours/excursion companies drop you off or pick you up, at this hotel. The hotels website lists the few companies that do, but from experience these companies tours were a lot more expensive and the one company that did do a cheaper tour cancelled (due to a us being the only people that booked the tour).
So getting back from tours/excursions was sometimes quite frustrating as we’d have to use the city bus (number 1) to get to BSÍ in central Reykjavik for 8 in order to get picked up for tours/excursions. But this is also where we’d have to get dropped off to get the city bus back. The city bus was around the equivalent of £6.00 for two of us which was quite cheap really. A taxi to do the same journey was the equivalent of £60.
There was a bus stop right behind the hotel which is handy.
Which leads me on to my next point.

The beautifully fresh fallen snow soon turns to slippery ice that isn’t gritted or maintained, so the only path to that bus stop soon became an ice rink. So I just suggest you go careful.

But other than that perfect really, most of the staff were really friendly and helpful. The included breakfast wasn’t the best thing on the planet, but it is the job. The rooms the comfortable with a soft bed, radiator, tv and neat little en-suite.

Great hotel for the price in Iceland. The room and hotel were modern, clean, comfortable and quite large for Europe. The bathroom was also bright and clean, with a good hot shower (and water that does not smell like sulfur, like I encountered many other places in Iceland). Very easy to access right off a main road, but surprisingly quiet even though our room faced that highway. Plenty of free parking, and not a far drive to Reykjavik or to get onto highway 1. There is a sports bar with food in the hotel (open til 9) but it's also only a couple kilometers to the main town center with multiple restaurants open til 9 or 10, and it's walkable via sidewalk if you want a few drinks. Breakfast is good, although not American. You won't find eggs and Sausages and pancakes, but lots of breads and cold cuts and cheese and yogurt. FYI- a few sites mention a hot tub on site, but the hot tub is in the attached gym. If you want to use it, check the hours and make sure to book a room that includes gym access (some don't on the big hotel websites).

Only two real downsides for us. First, this hotel is attached to a gym and next to an MMA studio, and people FLY through the parking lot without looking for walkers. (The outside looks odd being attached to a gym, but once you're inside you wouldn't notice.) Second, we arrived an hour before check-in and learned that even though the room was ready, we had to pay to check in early. I understand paying to have the room cleaned early, but it felt like nickel and diming since it was already ready. We napped in the car in the parking lot instead, but felt safe doing so.

We had 2 nights here as our base near Reykjavik and got a pretty generous size room although no double bed, we were travelling as a couple but my fiancee was very happy for the space due to my snoring!

Hotel is modern and staff friendly enough, only issue we had was our room had a fire escape outside which made a lot of noise in the wind at night.

This is a great location, only 15 mins or so drive from Reykjavik centre and a nice location closer to airport and blue lagoon. Plenty of nearby restaurants and parking for the hotel.

On the Sunday (and weekdays I think) they lock the main door so you need to use room key to open a side door - restaurant for breakfast only opens at 7AM.

Continental breakfast available with a cool waffle / pancake maker.

I had booked an airport transfer (from airport to hotel) from your website, however, on the day of my arrival at the airport, I was told by the bus company that the bus does not go to this hotel. We ended up having to get off at another hotel and take a taxi to the hotel.

If the bus come to this hotel, why does your website say "door to door service to and from Hotel Vellir"? When we got to the hotel, we were treated rudely by one our colleagues in the reception. I told him what had happened regarding the bus, he told me that it has nothing to do with the hotel. If the bus was booked via your hotel website, why does it have nothing to do with the hotel?

He told me that we could have phoned the hotel and you can arrange the hotel transfer on our behalf. I told him if, from your hotel website I can book the airport transfer online, why would I need to phone for this? He then replied, saying "Is your English not good?" I found that really rude and a racist comment!

Please accept our sincerest apologies, this kind of behavior is not tolerated from our employees, and we will be sure to follow this up with the receptionist you referred to. I understand the confusion caused and I will speak to the TourDesk which operates the tour section of our website and ensure that they remove the other transfer services, or at the very least make it clearer they are not door to door with our hotel. I am sorry for any upset this confusion has caused, I hope it has not impacted your stay. Please feel free to contact the hotel directly to discuss this further.

Decent hotel. Room good size. Adequate bathroom but shower curtain too short. Water splashed through the whole bathroom.
No conditioner offered and shampoo/body wash was the same as the hand soap.
No tissues, which we noticed many hotels don’t supply.
Typical breakfast.
Ample parking. Staff pleasant.
Room was very dark but bathroom mirror was well lit.
15-20 minutes from downtown Reykjavík.

My family and I needed a place to stay close to the active volcano in Iceland, Fagradalsfjall. This hotel seemed to be a good option. We were very pleased with our stay and the staff was very helpful in getting the information we needed. The breakfast good and we loved the fresh waffles! Top recommendations!

I think it’s 7 am to 10 am. Assorted meats, cheeses, fruit, eggs( probably were powdered), pastries, yogurt, and breads. We arrived at KEF 06:20 and we booked the hotel for the night before arrival and day of so we were allowed to eat breakfast when we got there. We prearranged with the hotel. Nice clean hotel friendly front desk. Hope this helps.

Dear Alan, For the shuttle from the airport, you should buy your ticket with Grayline as they got a drop off in front of the hotel door. Departure from the airport every 30min and costs 3.100 ISK per person one way. For northern lights tours - also GrayLine or Sterna Travel companies which are picking up from our hotel. Please let us know if you have any further questions, Best regards, Indre Front desk
