An overnight stay at the Utter Inn was one of the truly defining moments of our recent trip to Sweden. It's entirely eccentric and altogether charming. We adored dining al fresco as the motorboats road by, causing our little lake-shack to ripple with the waves. The sunset was pure magic, and our descent into the bedroom to sleep was like...

We spent one night at Utter Inn. We thought we would be able to transport ourselves back to Västerås from the hotel but it was too far out for the small rowboat provided. Luckily we had already been to the supermarket and I don't think we missed out on too much sightseeing on land. Watching the fish through the window...

The Utter Inn is a floating (anchored) hotel in Lake Mälaren at Västerås in Sweden. The only thing you really need is fine weather (and maybe a bottle of wine), then it is an experience without equal for a relaxing time on your own island (well, two room beach type house on a floating platform). You are ferried to the...

I saw this hotel on a Web site of original places to stay and couldn't resist since we were going to be in Sweden over the summer. We arranged a time to meet someone a few days before and picked up something for to eat for dinner as once you are out at the Utter Inn, you cannot go back...

We had an enchanting getaway at the Utter Inn, a tiny little red house plopped in the middle of a lake outside Stockholm. Staff drove us out to our little villa on a high speed inflatable, and left us with plenty of fresh water and a plentiful breakfast. Conditions are camp-like (propane stove, latrine) but the experience was unforgettable. You...

“Take your own wine if you like a tipple. The bedroom is in a six by six room reached by a ladder. Not hard but some would find it challenging. If in doubt check it out. Make sure your electronic equipment likes, phones, iPad, cameras etc are charged before you get there. You will want your phone, and a contact number! Don't waste your time looking inside for where you can wash or shower. Don't hit your head on the wall cupboard as I did - lots of times!”
