This hotel is right in the heart of Gamla Stan, so it's a perfect place to hang your hat while exploring the Old Town section of Stockholm. The rooms are compact, and the entire hotel are decorated with a nautical them. The hotel provides breakfast to its guests in a dining area, but there isn't a regular restaurant there. This... More

I have nothing but praise for this hotel. It's in a terrific location in Gamla Stan (Old Town) with lots of places to eat nearby. It's also convenient to a central shopping district and close to the Swedish Parliament. The staff were unfailingly polite and helpful. Phillip at the front desk in particular was always willing to help.

Often, with budget accommodation, I find myself going 'well...at least it was cheap'. This was one of those rare occasions where I'd actually be happy to return. I'll start with the downsides : the room was quite tiny - if you're 6' tall, you might want to think carefully about the single rooms, with the narrow single bed and tight... More

I enjoy hotels which are somewhat out of the ordinary. Lord Nelson has a nautical theme, and has regular keys with a large brass buckle. I was met in a very friendly way. The local is in the middle of "Gamla Stan", and about 15m walk from the Arlanda Express station, through the shopping streets. I saw some complaints that... More

Very special building, Ohly 6 meters from corner to corner. The interior is like a ship with a lot of details, photos of different ships. The rooms are small and like cabins. Breakfast not big but enough.

Just returned from this small quaint hotel. Its situated in a busy pedestrian street in the middle of the Old Town. The location is fantastic with shops, bars, cafes, and resturants on your doorstep. The rooms are small but they have all the amenaties you need. Breakfast is the usual coffee/juices/fresh bread/cheese/ham/yogurt etc. The staff are all amazing (special mention must go to... More

This hotel is located in the heart of Gamla Stan the old section of Stockholm. It is a rather small hotel but has all the amenities that you might want. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the room was small but clean and comfortable and the breakfast was very good. The arrangement with sister hotel Lady Hamilton was great--my... More

This hotel is located near the parliament, in the most busy tourist street. The staff are friendly, and the rooms are clean, but very small. The view from my hotel room was looking right into The neighbour's kitchen. If you sleep with The window open, you will hear the church bell every hour, counting The clock. 😕 The hotel is... More

If you are after a classic 4 star chain hotel experience, then you will not want to stay here. However, if you are more open minded and don't mins small but basic, this is the place to stay. The room is tiny, like a ships cabin, but I'm short so that was ok for me. It is immaculately clean and... More

If you want to stay in a hotel that is a little different from the normal faceless big hotel chains you see everywhere consider this little gem. For a start it is on one of many tiny streets in the old town so you are bang in the main area. The hotel is quite small and the nautical theme is... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Lord Nelson Hotel is an intimate, friendly and pleasant hotel right in the heart of Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s Old Town. You find the hotel on the main street, close to the city centre and all the capital’s sights and attractions. But the hotel itself is also an attraction, as it contains a unique, private collection of maritime antiques – passionately gathered through the decades by the owner family Bengtsson. All rooms have been designed and decorated to resemble cabins on a ship. The building dates from the 17th century and at just under six metres wide, this property is undoubtedly Sweden’s narrowest hotel. In the Summer time the hotel guests can enjoy a Beautiful view on Poop Deck, the roof top terrace. The Continental Breakfast has an organic a fairtrade profile, and the hotel offers free coffe and tea service in the library on the first floor. ... more   less
