Stayed twice within a month at this hotel. Very clean, excellent location and very helpful staff. The hotel does look like funky and a stage for a thriller movie, but its very interesting. The breakfast is not that bad too. The building is a heritage building, so yes there is no elevator. But climbing stairs are good for your health...

Beautiful area. Strongly recommend it if you want to relax. Spectacular beaches within an hour's drive. That's not relaxation you may add, but trust me it's worth it. The hotel is pretty. Excellent location. Breakfast is good and the staff very friendly. I'm not a fussy chap but maybe a quick wipe of the duster would be an idea in...

Friendly and helpful staff; clean, comfortable, air-conditioned rooms; an excellent and varied buffet breakfast; and an ideal location in the heart of the old city. The only drawback for older or unfit travellers was that rooms are over three floors and there is no lift but, that aside, this is an excellent base for visiting Chania and great value for...

Many reviews complain about the number of steps or the lack of car parking. What do you expect from a 13th century building in the middle of the old Venetian paved part of the town? You can park about 750 yards away and a lift would destroy much of the fabric, so if you need one then go to some...

We spent 4 nights here in September. They organised a pick up from the airport which went very well. The driver had to drop us off outside the old town and give us instructions how to find it but this was no hassle either. The welcome was very friendly (a glass of Raki) and registration easy. We had a room...

The hotels around the old city of Chania are located in a maze of narrow alleyways and cobbled streets that are confusing and crowded during business hours. Street names are hard to spot against the background of shop signage and after wandering around in circles for 10 minutes we were given directions to the Porto Colombo by the concierge of...

A very character filled hotel with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, especially Athina who had us in fits of laughter, breakfast very substantial and served until late, much appreciated. Bathroom small but adequate although another hook for towels would be helpful. A great location very close to everything and down a quiet laneway away from hustle and bustle of main...

We just got back from our honeymoon in Greece and this was our absolute favorite hotel that we stayed in. It's a bit tricky to find since it is buried in the streets of Old Town Chania, but what an absolute piece of history! The staff is so lovely and friendly, and they take such care and are happy to...

This is a very charming hotel in the heart of the old town. As with other hotels in the area there is no real direct access by car but that is more than compensated by the location. We were in the top floor and since there is no elevator it may not be for those with mobility issues but the...

We very much enjoyed this wonderful old hotel. We had a great two-level space; the only liability of that is that the room was a long walk up many stairs. The location, in the middle of the old town, was really quite ideal. We did not realize that we had to walk a couple of blocks to the property. That...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our Hotel, an imposing, tall, 600 year old building, has gathered a rich history over the passing of the centuries. During the days of Turkish Rule, the building housed members of high ranking Turkish military who made many changes to the buildings architecture - even built a Hamam. In the garden and next to that, a room to secure their slaves (where you can still see the metallic rings nailed to the walls). In the beginning of the 19th Century, the building was used as a French embassy and later was inhabited by the great Greek political figure, Eleftherios Venizelos, who also used it as his political offices until his move to Athens, when he took power as Prime Minister of Greece. The Hotel has 10 beautiful rooms - the 2 of which are maisonettes - fully restored and traditionally decorated to provide our guests with an especially warm and welcome feeling. All rooms have modern conveniences (WC, telephone, TV, mini-bar, air-conditioning and Central Heating in winter) ensuring our guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. ... more   less
