You can't beat the location. It is in Plaka district, walking distance to shopping, sites and nightlife. Most of the rooms are decent size but some are on the small side so if you want more space just ask for a larger room. The hotel is simple but very clean and the staff is very accommodating. I have stayed at...

The hotel is located right in the Plaka, which made it very convenient - I would come few times a day on my way to attractions, to change, leave items I bought in the room, etc. It is less than 5 min walk from the Acropolis metro station. The view of Acropolis from the roof top terrace was really great,...

I stayed at the Phaedra 20 years ago when it cost 10 drachmas a night and there were no locks on the bathroom doors (ah, the old romanticism of old Greece before it joined the euro). Well, things have changed! Even though the location and basics made it a good stay back then, it's a really good stay now. The...

My husband and I have stayed here for two years now and love this hotel. Marianna and the staff are always so friendly and helpful. The location can't be beat and the room with the view of the Acropolis never ceases to amaze. Our stay here always gives us a wonderful taste of Greek hospitality! J & J from CT,...

Having stayed in two other Lonely Planet recommended hotels in Istanbul and Kos, we were expecting this to be of a similar standard. It wasn't! However, having spent 3 nights here, I hope to give a balanced view of the Phaedra. Starting with the negatives: we were in a room in which we could barely move, and had to use...

We had 2 precious nights in GREAT located Phaedra. Despite of our late check-in and early check-out, service was warm-hearted. Rooms and breakfast are a little bit spartan way, but for me it was part of this exellent Athenian experience:-) The roof offers beautiful views to Acropolis, exellent and peaceful for night time romancing:-).

In the heart of the Plaka district with excellent views of the Acropolis, the location of this hotel can't be beat. The hotel itself, however, leaves a lot to be desired. Our bed was quite uncomfortable and the taps on the sink in our our room didn't work unless we would turn the main shut off valve. The bathroom across...

The hotel is located in the heart of Plaka, but apart from that it doesn't offer anything else. Our bathroom was outside the room, across the hall and it was very small and quite bad. The bed was old and creaking. The aircondition was also old, noisy and did not work properly, and the breakfast was poor. Finally, we could...

My 12 year old daughter and I booked for 2 nights at the Hotel Phaedra, and loved it. It is a simple hotel, and our first room was not to be chosen if you wanted to swing any of the many cats which roam Athens. However, the lack of space was more than compensated for by our view of the...

The hotel is close to all main attractions of the city of Athens, close to the metro station of Acropolis about 5 minutes, good value money-service, kind and always friendly the staff, very safe area, close to many souvenir shop, restaurantes and cafes! Totally recommended! Ask for a room with a view to Acropolis! Enjoy

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
