We spent one night in the Hotel Nefeli in Sept 2013. This is a travelers hotel, its plain and simple but is very reasonably priced and is located in the heart of the Plaka. The hotel is on a side street, so its fairly quiet, and clean with everything you need including breakfast. We caught a late flight out of...

Nefeli is a small hotel, very good location close to the Acropolis and Plaka. Very friendly staff, 24 hours/day. Rooms are not big but more than sufficient; the place is quiet and, hot water all day. Very good value for money.

Great budget hotel in Plaka, especially for backpackers. It's walking distance from the Metro, Syntagma Square, and Monastraki. Breakfast is included. I would definitely recommend it if you are on a budget.

This hotel is within walking distance of all major attractions. The acropolis is at most a 10 minute walk. Plaka restaurants and shopping less than 5 minutes. Going into area it may seem a bit run down, but very safe area, even after dark. The hotel is small but makes up for it in great customer service. Breakfast is good...

The only thing positive about this hotel is that it is centrally located in Plaka, near the rest of the tourist sites in Athens. From here you can walk to the main drag in Plaka, walk to the Acropolis Museum or towards Monastiraki. I was recommended this hotel by a friend and although it has some old charm...it's old, grimy...

A few words of advice, though: Neither the windows nor walls are soundproof, if you're a light sleeper consider bringing some earplugs. This is not to say that the area is particularly noisy (considering it's in Plaka). Also, our mattress was a bit on the firm side (try to get a twin room, the separate beds seem softer sprung). The...

The area that the hotel is in is very nice. Plaka is nice, too. No worries. Good to be in the middle of Syntagma and Acropolis and Ermou. Staff is very helpful. Rooms are typical of that age of hotel.... basic decor, plumbing, etc.. Not fancy, and not run-down/broken, either. Let the desk know if you have a problem. Nice...

Can't ask for a better location, staff, and value for the money. Hotel is a bit old and could use some updating. We stayed here 2 times, and one room was good, but the other room had a bathroom toilet that was a bit difficult as water would come out of the tank and onto the toilet. Smelled a little,...

I stayed at the hotel in June 2012 and have been back this year! I stayed two nights in June (both for stopovers as we were going to and from Mykonos). The hotel staff are incredibly friendly, the location is amazing! About ten min walk from Acropolis and it's in the Plaka district. Only problem is that it can be...

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
