As part of a 3 week vacation in Greece we stayed for 4 nights at The Astor Hotel, just off the main Syntagma Square.
The best thing about this hotel is its prime location to all the main sites of Athens, as well as being...More
As other reviewers have commented, if you just want a basic, clean place to sleep in a convenient location, this hotel is fine. I was apprehensive, having read some of the reviews here about mildew and/or damp-smelling rooms, but my room was clean and comfortable,...More
Parallel to the shopping mall and a nice 10 minute stroll to the Plaka district. Fantastic view of acropolis from roof top restaurant day and night. Has a down stairs bar and friendly helpful staff. Rooms are a bit tired and need a paint and...More

Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents,
bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
