Great staff at reception, really helpful and smiley. The hotel has a lovely feel about it. It's not big, but I didn't want a big hotel, I wanted some character and that's what I got. Location is spot on, in a quiet street but very close to the Acropolis and lots of great restaurants. Bedroom more than adequate with a...

When I search for a hotel I never search for less than four star - I feel it's just safer that way. The Hotel Hera came us a four star hotel, I would actually give it a 3.5. The price was very affordable, so I can't knock it too much, and I feel the location couldn't have been more perfect...

Stayed in many places and another 'fancy' hotel in Athens, but this tool my heart. Loved it - the location, the warm welcome, the room is small but very nice, pillows and mattress are perfect, breakfast lovely , super cozy and everything is few meters away. Quiet and just perfect.

Me and my husband went for our honeymoon and it was the best option to stay in Athens, last year we went to Athens too and I wish I'd have stayed here. The location is perfect, very close to acropolis museum and plaka. The staff was very friendly and one of them was Chilean which was a very nice surprise...

The room is average size, but well decorated, nice cozy bed and amazing marble bathroom. Service and politeness at the lobby is improvable. breakfast is average at best, poor and low quality selection of food.

Very conveniently located in the heart of Athens. Within walking distance from lots of shops, restaurant, Metro Station etc. Very close to attractions such as temple of Zeus, the Acropolis museum etc. The restaurant in the hotel offers a nice view of the Acropolis hill, especially stunning at night. Don't miss it. The rooms were very nice, clean sheets and...

We four ladies had a pleasant stay at the Hera Hotel, in early November. Each of our rooms had a balcony, where we enjoyed our view of the Parthenon, with a glass of wine. The rooms were very comfortable, with twin beds. The bathrooms were updated and modern. We enjoyed the breakfast and it was ample in quality and quantity....

This place is located right on the foothills of the Acropolis, within walking distance from the subway station. It is a very nice property completely renovated. The room we got was spacious and the bathroom even had a bath tub. Same of the staff are extremely friendly, other are a bit rough (room for improvement). The breakfast room has a...

This is the second time we have stayed here. We chose it for the proximity of the Acropolis and the Acropolis museum. The Plaka is also very near. The room was good and the mattress was enormous and very very comfortable, however a bit mean with the tea-bags, hardly an expense! Overall the place is very clean so it's a...

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
