If you like a hotel run by iPads and a lack of human contact, then this hotel is not for you. If you yearn for old elegance, personal and attentive service, and a feeling that as a guest you are valued, then consider the Hotel Grande Bretagne. This hotel was built to hold VIPs when the modern Olympics returned for the first time in Greece, and walking through the huge lobby , Winter Garden and Alexander's Bar, you can imagine the dignitaries in their finery. The hotel staff is warm, welcoming, and takes their time making every guest feel important. On checking back in following a cruise, my husband had injured himself and was in a wheelchair. On seeing us waiting in the lobby for our room, an attentive staffer came over, immediately secured a room for us near the elevator, and two concierge staff personally assisted us upstairs, as well as offering to visit the local pharmacy and pick up needed medicines. This level of service is not often found today and was incredibly appreciated.
But the hospitality is not all. The Grande Bretagne has an amazing rooftop restaurant, GB Roof Garden, and virtually every seat has an incredible view of the Acropolis and the Parthenon. Imagine sipping a cocktail and gazing at one of the world's most iconic landmarks. The food is excellent, heavily seafood based, and incredibly fresh. After dinner if you wish for a more secluded nightcap, head to the Atrium of Alexander's Lounge, where a verdant oasis hides in the inner courtyard of the hotel.
No neon lights - your room will not auto adjust light and you won't be pushed to check out online so you can avoid all human contact. When you depart a friendly face will review your bill with you, tuck it neatly into a crisp envelope, and wish you a safe journey home and a speedy return. We already can't wait.

We stayed for 4 nights in early July, and this is a fantastic hotel in a great location in Athens. We had 2 very nice adjoining rooms, very comfortable and nicely furnished. We were able to walk to about everywhere - Acropolis is a 15 minute walk, it's on the edge of Plaka, and there is also a subway right outside the hotel which we utilized a couple of times. Breakfast (served at the rooftop) was included with our rate, and the breakfast was excellent. There were several food stations / buffets, along with a menu you could order off of. The view is great from the rooftop, and we also went up for drinks each evening, and the atmosphere was always good. It's a very trendy spot, but the hotel always was able to accommodate us for cocktails as guests of the hotel. The only thing we were disappointed is we tried to make dinner reservations the day we arrived, but they were booked up for the next 3 days. We had the concierge help us with several tours, and the concierge team was very attentive. We are very pleased that we chose this hotel for our Athens stay.

We booked a room with an Acropolis view and that got us on the 7th floor which was a butler floor. Our butler was helpful with getting us a very nice table for dinner in the Roof Garden Restaurant, and our room was always well stocked with bottled water.

The complimentary cordials in the room were also a nice touch.

The room was comfortable, with a balcony which offered us a view of the Acropolis and Parthenon, Constitution Square, and the changing of the guard. The bed was very nice.

We selected the breakfast option, and it was quite extensive, with a wide selection of hot and cold items. It was a buffet with servers, which we were comfortable with. The views were great! Service was good.

The common areas were very nice, as you would expect in such a historic property. We had drinks one night before dinner on the terrace outside the cigar bar. Good service and well-prepared cocktails.

The pool was small, crowded, and cold.

Our only issue was the bath which was dark which made it difficult to shave or apply makeup.

We were not using points, we were paying for our room, and we felt it was nice, but not what I would call a great value. We enjoyed our three night stay, but probably would not go back.

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful, historic hotel! I had booked a room with an Acropolis view, and was upgraded to a room on the butler floor with a large balcony - perakalo! Our room and bathroom were gorgeous - marble, gold, and dark wood everywhere. Loved waking up to sunrise over the Acropolis, and watching the changing of the guard from our balcony. We were supplied with many complimentary bottles of water and sparkling water each day, and a large fruit bowl was left for us as well. The concierge was fabulous! He arranged for a car to pick us up at the ferry and one to take us to the airport. He arranged for our wonderful guide for our private tour of the Acropolis and Plaka. And he arranged our relaxing, in hotel COVID test for our return home (we were emailed our results within 13 hours, and the concierge desk had print outs for us as well). Everything was seamless thanks to Apostolos! The rooftop restaurant was good, but service was very slow. The rooftop pool is nice, but rather small and the lounge chairs fill up quickly. They only had sitting chairs available the afternoon we were there, but there is a nice pool bar with friendly servers and yummy Miami Vices. The world famous Bar Alexander was closed due to COVID, so we had pre-dinner cocktails in the delightful garden instead. This hotel was rather pricey, much more than any of our hotels in Santorini or Mykonos, but is worth the price!

We were impressed from the moment we arrived to the goodbyes at the end. First the hotel from the outside is very impressive. The service from the attendant outside to the reception and the bellman to the room was very welcoming. When you enter the lobby we were very impressed with the style of the entrance and the very beautiful & tall Christmas tree with all it's lights and decorations. We had a Jr. Suite which was very impressive with it's Chandeliers, tasteful furniture, bathroom and plentiful Molton Brown products and Hotel Soaps made for a wonderful introduction to the hotel. We also very much appreciated the welcoming gifts that were there for us when we entered the suite. The hotel itself is great to explore with lots of various rooms, shops, dining and the spa looked very inviting. The roof top restaurant which served a delicious breakfast with a wide variety of offerings with a view looking at the Acropolis is very much worth going to. Drinks at night with the Acropolis all lighted up is a site to behold. We would highly recommend this hotel & restaurant. The location is also great, close to everything. The staff are very helpful, friendly from the time we booked by phone to when we checked out 4 days later.

We stayed in the GB for 4 nights on a city stopover on our way to the beaches.

Despite the Covid-19 restrictions, service was flawless. Very attentive, very friendly, always professional.

The hotel is in the best location in the city, right next to the changing of the guard outside the parliament building with amazing views to the Acropolis. Worth paying extra to get a room with an Acropolis view.

The rooftop pool was a saviour when temperatures were in the high 30s.

Breakfast in the GB Rooftop restaurant was well executed and we felt privileged to dine with such an amazing vista. Dinner at the GB Rooftop can also be recommended.

We have stayed in many Grand City hotels and this rivals the very best of them.

Spectacular views. Stellar service. Stunning suite.
Arrived at 7am and the lovely front desk staff was able to accommodate an early check in with a beautiful suite (using my Titanium SNA’s). The room was spacious with a living room and bedroom, tall opulent windows and overall very well appointed. The bathroom had twin sinks, marble accents and a full tub….in addition to Molton Brown amenities (I always love a good branded amenity when traveling). The housekeeping staff also left the room sparkling and paid attention to every detail.
The rooftop restaurant has gorgeous views of the Acropolis, an attentive and caring staff and a delicious menu.
Location is great - smack in the middle of bustling downtown and not as tourist driven as the areas closer to the Acropolis (a short walk through the park or meandering through beautiful alleyways will get you there).
(Note: I even left my AirPods in the room by accident and the concierge service found them and are sending them to me back in the US). Really above and beyond 🤩

I have stayed in this hotel more than 10 times over the years and it feels like home to me. The service is impeccable and consistently wonderful. The rooms are very clean and beautiful and the credit goes to the housekeeping team.

The guest service team is always prompt on responding to requests and the room service is also wonderful - especially the seafood spaghetti and lobster burger.
If you want to have a relaxing time, this is the perfect hotel because it is sophisticated , luxurious and serene at the same time.

The breakfast rooftop restaurant has spectacular views of the Parthenon and breakfast spread is fantastic and service excellent.
I have to say that I will only stay in this hotel when I am in Athens.

Stunning decor, luxurious amenities, phenomenal views of the Acropolis, central location and great service can all be found at the Grande Bretagne. We loved our stay here and thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast and dinner at the rooftop restaurant. Eating delicious food while enjoying unparalleled views of the Acropolis was absolutely wonderful and a memory I’ll always have. Absolutely book a dinner reservation here, it was one of our best meals in Athens! The concierge, front desk receptionists, porter and bell men all were extremely kind, helpful, and spoke excellent English. The pool was great to use in the afternoons to cool off after touring the many sites and to beat the heat. The rooms were spacious and sumptuously decorated. We’re recommending all our friends & family to stay here on their next trip to Athens! We’ll definitely be back.
