Hope to see you when you come to Athens.
Best Regards,
We loved the location of the hotel and you could walk to everything and the subway was really close. We did not have a vehicle and did not need one. Athens is a big place and there were lots of sketchy looking hotels. This one...More

Dear Todd M,

Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a

number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.

The airport is approximately 20 miles from the Athens City Center. There is a taxi stand just outside the Terminal (Exit 3, across from the Sofitel Hotel). The rate to the City Center is a flat rate of 38 euros, including the toll, so don't pay more unless the driver is handling a lot of luggage. After 12 midnight through 6 a.m., the flat rate jumps to 54 euros. This is the fastest, easiest way to transfer, but both the taxis and buses are dependent on traffic conditions.
Alternative transportation includes:
Bus # X95: Leaves the Terminal (between Exits 4 and 5) which takes you to Syntagma Square in approximately 40-60 minutes. Cost: 6 euros The Hotel is about an 8 minute walk downhill from the Square.
Metro: The metro takes about 40 minutes from the airport to the City Center. Tickets and instructions can be found on the Automatic Ticket Issue Machines. Especially if you are handling luggage, I would caution you about pick pockets; a problem on any major city subway. Your subway stop for The Plaka Hotel will be Monastiraki. When you exit, it will be about an 8 minute slightly uphill walk through a crowded shopping area. I hope that this helps!

From the airport you could take the metro direct line number 3 until Monastiraki Square. The train runs every 30 min.The journey is about 40 minutes. It operates from 06:35- 23:35. A single fare costs 10 euro (special rates for two or more persons) Don't forget to validate your ticket.
Please mind your personnal belongings at all time (very carfull with your money, passport, tickets, never in your pockets). From Monastiraki Square you have to walk up Mitropoleos Street. On the second street to your right you will see the hotel.
Looking forward to welcoming you!
