We have been on a number of wine tasting and vineyard tours throughout the Uk, Europe and the US and have also attended several cookery courses in England. This was our first "cooking" holiday abroad and we were a little concerned at one of the reviews posted only a month before we were due to travel. There was absolutely NO...

We stayed at Palazzo del Duca as a part of the cooking and wine touring option. We traveled with friends and shared the Malaspina apartment, which was spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped, bathrooms nice and beds comfortable. It had a huge dining table that could seat 12, if we wanted to throw a big party, and a...

Italy is our preferred vacation destination - this was our seventh visit in nine years. This was our first stay at the Palazzo but definitely not the last. Our group consisted of two couples and our accommodations could not have been better. We had a full kitchen with everything needed to prepare a meal, 2 bathrooms, large common area. There...

We visited for a wine and food holiday week and had a marvelous time. Though in a small hamlet there is plenty to do in the area (cinque d'terra, hiking, wineries, restaurants, etc) The rooms are well done and the hospitality excellent.

A friend and I stayed in an apartment which is part of the Palazzo. It is self contained and ideal for a couple - cheery and well equipped with plenty of hot water and a good shower. The area is the true attraction. One has the feeling of being in a place apart or at least off the beaten track....

This was a beautiful area and the Palazzo was a real slice of old Italy, however, the hostess has not been there all year because of a pregnancy and the cookery course consisted of a couple of demonstrations by a very nice local Italian cook, no hands on at all, one of which was a very basic ragu. The wine...

Here once more, this time in the Depandance apartment which is ideal for 2, especially as it has its own seating area with table and chairs overlooking the pool and gardens. People have written elsewhere about the background and history and so all I can add here is to reinforce the positive views about the location, apartments and MOST IMPORTANTLY...

I've been fortunate to spend many summers of my life in different areas of Tuscany and being at the Palazzo in Tavernelle offers something I have yet to experience anywhere else in Italy. The Palazzo itself is an incredible restored palace, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. When you leave the palace you find yourself in a village with winding stone...

We are students and teachers attached to an art school. We are sculptors. We want to know what it is to work the legendary marble from Carrara. Therefore, early in the morning we left our city on the river. Two vans, seventeen enthusiastic passengers and driving hundreds of kilometers ahead. Our goal? Palazzo Del Duca, Licciana Nardi, Tuscany, Italy. Much...

Stayed here with a large group of friends. It was wonderful. Divided into separate apartments means private baths for all and several well-appointed kitchens. One large room on the second floor served as a sitting and dining room for our large group. Outdoors was lovely, too. The hosts were very kind and friendly. We had the hostess prepare two evening...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Are you looking for an off beaten path Italian vacation, a mix of Italian rural life, contact with nature, relax and tranquillity? Palazzo del Duca offers all of that in the magic atmosphere of a 17th century old palazzo situated in the heart of a lovely tiny medieval village surrounded by the natural beauty of the Tuscan-emilian Appennines National Park. A paradise for lovers of all activities in close contact with nature: trekking, hiking, fishing, horse riding, canoeing etc. Etc. At very close distance there are the 100 Lakes Park and Alpi Apuane Park. We are in Tuscany, but very close to other 2 regions, Liguria and Emilia Romagna. The area is gem-set between mountains and sea. In 30 minutes driving you can go skiing in the winter or you can go visiting one of the most beutiful coasts of Italy, 5 Terre (Unesco Site), Portovenere and Gulf of Poets ... more   less
