This hotel was beautifully built upon and inside a castle dating back hundreds of years. We were upgraded to a lovely suite. Beautiful antiques yet clean and comfortable. Staff helped us with logistics . Nice breakfast included .

Booked for a night and stayed on as so lovely. Best welcome from staff ever and we stayed in 6 hotels in Northern Portugal. Lovely old building with lots of character but modern facilities. Perfect location for exploring town. We had free parking and also made use of free bikes to cycle to beach. Lots of tips from Rita who...

As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a historic building, yet it is incredibly well located. Just cross the street to get to the incredibly wonderful historic area of the city. Rainy day? There's a mall with multiplex cinema. The train station is behind the hotel, although there is no noise whatsoever. The mall is actually called "Estação", which means...

Typically in Portugal in order to stay at a historic inn, I've had to stay out of the center of town I'm visiting (needing a car). Not here. This well preserved inn offers tasteful rooms of stone and wood with modern conveniences (flat screen tv, modern bathroom, free wifi). Staff is helpful and friendly. Breakfast buffet has good variety and...

Avoid this hotel if you want characterless modern rooms with no interesting corners! Except that the bathroom was...

Melo Avim's location was perfect to enjoy the central downtown and to hike up to the cathedral. The bed was comfortable. The room was quiet and the shower provided consistently hot water. Breakfast was very good. The staff was very helpful.
