Hotel Boa-Vista reserves for you the privilege of being the only Hotel in Foz, the noble part of the city, where the Douro river meets the Atlantic ocean. Here you are far away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to everything. The Historic Centre can be quickly reached along the waterfront, offering views of the natural beauty of the river and its imposing bridges. When returning to Foz, you can enjoy the walk between the river and the sea, cross the romantic Passeio Alegre garden and admire the 16th century architecture of S. Joao Fort, just across from the hotel. After the piers and lighthouses at the Douro’s bar, the sophisticated atmosphere of the modern outdoor cafes overlooking the sea is well worth a visit.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed at the Boa Vista in early August 2024 for 4 nights after catching the train there from Lisbon. The hotel for us was ideally located at Foz do Douro which is at the mouth of the Douro river where it runs into the Atlantic Ocean. Its location gave us easy access to both the hustle and bustle of the riverside Ribeira district and to the Atlantic Coast side with its beaches. By the way , in case anyone didn’t know, the Atlantic Ocean is very cold. You can easily walk from the hotel in either direction along perfectly flat riverside and coastal pavements. I would estimate that the walk from the hotel into Porto takes about a hour. The public transport in Porto is fantastic and the number 500 bus will also take you in either direction for €2.50. There is also the option of taking one of the historic trams from nearby the hotel into Porto for , I think, €6..
The hotel itself is very clean throughout.our room was sparse but perfectly comfortable with a large bathroom and a great shower. The buffet breakfast was good and would certainly set you up for the day’s adventures. An added bonus was the rooftop bar which afforded excellent views and a welcoming cold drink at the end of the day. The rooftop pool was smaller than I had envisaged but I hadn’t planned to use it anyway. We very much enjoyed our stay at the hotel and as a base of operations it suited us perfectly

This hotel is a great spot from which to explore Foz, one of the nicest areas of Porto. From the rooftop (with pool! don't forget your bathing suit!) you can enjoy a drink while taking in a view of the sea. Certain aspects of the rooms have been modernized (the rainshowers) while the hotel mostly remains in a distinctly 70s vibe. Personally, I find this cool and like the atmosphere of hotels with a bit of history. Strong Wi-Fi and a solid breakfast (which could be a little higher quality, but it does the job) round out the hotel's offer. But what made it for me was the friendly staff, who were very kind and helpful with all my requests. A very enjoyable stay.

This hotel is located away from the city center but easily accessible by bus, the stop of which is nearby in 20 minutes. This hotel really has charm, facade, interior, atmosphere, staff... Our room overlooking a small street was very quiet, functional, with separate bathroom. A small bottle of Port and chocolates were offered on our arrival. The staff is smiling, professional and speaks a little French and gave us good information for the rest of our visit to Porto. Breakfast is simple but delicious, with fresh products and a sufficient choice. Underground parking, limited in number, is available to customers free of charge for reservations made directly on the hotel website. There is a beautiful terrace with a bar on the upper floor and indoor but unheated swimming pool and stunning views of the Douro. I recommend this hotel.

This is one of the worst hotels I have stayed ever. The hotel has a nice location (view on the ocean and when the weather is good, it is pretty cool to sit at the terrace). The hotel is very old, everything in the bathroom was leaking (the bath, the toilet). Although there was a proper bath in the room, we could not fill it with water. When requested to take a look at the problem, the cleaning lady asked twice if we want to take a bath and when I said: "No, just shower" she replied "Well, if you want to take a bath you should ask for another room". Breakfast is the same everyday and fruits are not fresh ever. Very limited choice as well. We had to ask multiple times to get tooth paste renewed in the room. The room itself was very small and no good ventilation either (all the cloth was always wet due to the humidity). I had the feeling we got the most horrible room in the whole building. Reception workers close the doors at night, so when coming back from the city after midnight we had to wait at the entrance for someone to open the front door to us. There is a swimming pool at the terrace which is not warmed up so when it is raining, you can't swim there either which is a pity. Would have made so much more sense to heat it and also clean the water every now and then. I would not recommend this accommodation to anyone.

Scam. Worst service I have seen In my life. Not only did they cancel the reservation without giving any warning, but they also charged the price of the room while they knew that the room had the wrong date (we only tried to rebook our room because they cancelled our initial reservation without giving any warning). The employees were rude and unhelpful, a truly shameful service. Avoid this hotel, Portugal has a very high standard when it comes to providing hospitality services.

Loved our stay here, it’s not luxe but it is very clean, comfy, brilliant location and fun. Fab views from the rooftop bar (expensive, but generous measures, lovely staff, tho do not expect gourmet!) and pool. Folks on reception v helpful when we asked to move rooms (bed was tiny, we’re not - check when booking if you’re tall/wide!)
The area of Foz is great, some lovely places to eat, drink and hang out. We were there with a few friends and it was a great place to do that. Breakfast was good and plentiful. The mix of guests in the hotel was interesting too, from all over Europe and US, holidaying and working. Nice vibe.

We loved our week at this hotel, which is just modernised enough to have every comfort you could want, and at the same time historic and full of old fashioned quirky charm/ character. Our ‘premium’ room (316) was huge and had a lovely sea view from the balcony. The beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was plentiful, constantly replenished, and again had everything you could want, including delicious fresh melon and pineapple, and pastel de natas! We loved the rooftop pool, and the terrace bar ( which serves a limited range of snacks)%. No real restaurant but we found a couple of great restaurants very close by (tip - try to drop in in the day time or day before to reserve a table). There is a little noise from aircraft overhead but otherwise, Foz is gloriously open and peaceful after the crowds and bustle of downtown Porto. We couldn’t wait to get ‘home’ to the hotel every evening!

Reception couldn't have been less helpful, the lady on reception demanded our passports before we could have the room key, even though we'd cycled there and our passports were at the bottom of a suitcase brought by taxi earlier in the day. She would not let us unpack in the room so we had to unpack on the floor in reception and then repack just to go up to our room. Would not recommend at all.

Hotel is situated in a beautiful area. The room was nice and clean. The staff friendly and informative. The breakfast was very nice but the best part is the roof top decks, pool and bar.
The location is away from the city center but a short Uber drive and you in the city but even better was to return to the quiet beauty of the surroundings
We would gladly return to Porto and the Boa Vista

This is my third time at this hotel in 6 months (it’s location is convenient for a project we are working on). Asked for an iron (for my clothes) the first time. Was told it did not exist but they were working on it. Asked on my second visit for an iron and was told a very complicated story of an ironing service that potentially could deliver 24 hours later but not on weekends. Asked on my third visit and was told that if I took a 30 minute ride by taxi (with my clothes) I could iron them myself and then should make it back to the hotel before midnight (with a different taxi).
Get real people! Why is this hotel incapable of offering an iron?
For the rest, rooms are mediocre at best, breakfast ok but forgettable and service somewhat incomprehensible. Porto is - by the way - gorgeous!

Booking directly with the hotel is possible but I doubt you will get it cheaper than on various hotel booking sites. Try a hotel booking website, book with free cancellation and payment at the hotel. Email the hotel thereafter and see if they can offer a better price.
I used Booking com without any problems (around June this year). No real explanation why you are having difficulties, sorry.
Hi
I agree with previous answer-think you'd need to go into Porto and then out again. Taxi was cheap and if you're staying at the Bia Vista ask them to arrange a taxi for you and they'll tell you the price.
Hello. We were there in mid-October. The pool is on the roof (lift access), surrounded by glass and with a glass roof, so it was warm. There is also a spacious terrace bar up there. Great for a drink while the sun was setting over the sea.......
JT.
We had a room at the front with a view of the fort opposite and the sea. All rooms appear to have been built around a central internal atrium, so I would imagine the rooms at the rear would look over the street and buildings at the back.
