Nestled in the heart of the city, Grande Hotel do Porto wins hearts with its elegant old-world charm and modern comforts, according to guests. While some reviewers remark that the rooms can feel a tad snug, the hotel's cleanliness and exceptional service consistently earn high praise.
The central location is a hit for its easy access to local hotspots, and despite a few hiccups with shower temperatures and additional fees, many visitors feel the hotel provides good value, making it a beloved choice for travelers seeking a mix of historical allure and convenience.

Detailed Reviews
This hotel is beautiful very opulent , you feel special. The public areas are just amazing
With its chandlers and beautiful furniture. It’s kept beautiful no light bulbs out or anything well worth visiting even if you don’t stay. However if you have a budget room small, it is again beautiful but very small really for a single occupancy. There is no tea and coffee in the room as it’s small. The bathroom was beautiful , we had to as for more coat hangers as there were only five, which they brought up no problem. The second floor the rooms were not as beautiful but larger, the third floor were beautiful and much larger. The breakfast was ok although scrambled eggs and bacon were cold on our first morning and the eggs were fishy, I went for the cold buffet instead afterwards which was fine, cakes, pastries all the usual. It’s well worth staying. When you step out from the hotel your right in the midst of a lovely shopping area. If you like shopping it’s a perfect weekend break.

I booked 'Grande Hotel do Porto' as it looked to be a characterful building that was excellently located in Porto. Having read previous reviews I booked a Suite and it was well located on the second floor and was spacious with a separate sleeping area. It was full of character, comfortable with two arm chairs and a leather sofa, a fridge, safe and Nespresso Coffee maker. There was a small balcony overlooking the street but noise didn't disturb us in the night. The bathroom was large and had a bath and separate shower, bath robes and large towels. Whilst the water pressure in the shower was great, it was difficult to moderate the temperature but we managed. The public rooms, particularly the main sitting area just past Reception and the bar are delightful whilst the restaurant where we had the included breakfast was elegant. Breakfasts were acceptable, the croissants, breads and cold options being better than the hot food. There is a choice of natural or fruit yogurt and a range of jams and honey. Coffee is from a machine. Staff were invariably friendly and efficient and they arranged a taxi for me to the airport on our final morning that stopped right outside the front door of the hotel and cost 25 Euros. Some official taxis can drop you outside on arrival but we arrived on a very busy Saturday afternoon so we were dropped off 100 metres away and it was a pleasant 2 minutes' walk to the hotel. The location of the hotel couldn't be bettered and restaurants, cafes and shopping abound in the area. We managed to locate a grocery store a few hundred metres after turning left out of the front door so we could buy some milk and store it in the fridge for the coffee. If staying in Porto again, I wouldn't look anywhere else as 'Grande Hotel do Porto' offered everything we wanted - comfort; history; elegance; convenience and good value for a suite.

This hotel is a gem and a great value for the money. The lobby areas were full of history and charm and very neat to see. Historic touches complimented a clean and newly remodeled room. The location is excellent and unique; the Rua de Santa Catarina is a pedestrian shopping street with lots of things to see during the day. However, at night it is peaceful and quiet with no motor traffic. It is also extremely convenient to many areas in Porto and is no more than a ten minute walk to many major tourist areas. I took breakfast in the hotel, and each morning there was good selection and the food was very fresh. The staff was attentive and kind from the moment I got there, right down to arranging my taxi on the morning I left. I had an extremely early flight, and they ensured everything went smoothly, even making sure my taxi was there earlier than planned. I hope to be back in Porto someday, and I will definitely stay here again if I get the chance!

I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights over New Year with a group of 35 other single people. We were spread over 2 floors, I was one of the "lucky" ones as I had a refurbished room on the 1st floor, room 122. It was the smallest room I have ever stayed in, how it could be described as a double is incomprehensible as there was not enough room for two people to be in there at the same time.
When I checked the fire escape information on the back of the door my room did not even exist! The "you are here" mark was on 123 which was next door. Not sure if this is even legal?
It was noisy, the shower constantly ran hot and cold and one day my room wasn't made up.
The public areas were quite stylish and a couple of the staff were helpful but I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

Response from grandehoteldoporto, Diretor de vendas at Grande Hotel do Porto
Responded 10 Jan 2020
Dear chriswX7030OU, We have read your comments carefully and we are deeply sorry about it. The reservation request was made through a travel agency and the evening meals were served as agreed. The service was given as agreed with the agency and charged in accordance. We have checked and the fire escape plan is correct and it was not reported at the reception that any room has not been made up. If you put the "Do not disturb" sign at the door the maids or any other staff won't disturb.

I think the title says it all. The location is very central meaning that you can pretty much get to the entire centre of porto within 15-20 mins on foot. It is also just 5 min walk from Bolhao which will get you pretty much anywhere without having to change. Most impressively it will take you to Matusinhus Sul where you will find a great beach and a fantastic selection of fresh seafood restaurants.
The breakfast is good and plentiful and included in the price if you book directly which I would recommend for best prices.
The staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They are also very flexible in terms of times to clean rooms and checkout. They are also able to help you with ideas of what to do.
Finally, with young kids, they provide family rooms which many hotels do not.
Overall I can easily recommend the hotel.

The Hotel has very Grand public rooms but sadly the bedrooms are not to the same standard. the bedroom I stayed in although beautifully decorated was so tiny it was like a boxroom. The wardrobe was not deep enough for the coathangers so clothes had to hang at an angle.Breakfast was not too bad but the fruit was mostly in syrup rather than fresh fruit and the evening meals were a disaster with barely cooked meat or fish on a bed of what they termed risotto but was like gunge and very little in the way of vegetables and the portions were tiny
The Gala dinner on New Years Eve was dire with once again barely cooked fish and almost raw veal and the hotel must have known that things were not right by the amount of food being returned to the kitchen. coffee was supposed to be served after the meal but did not arrive at the table I was seated on.I was with a large party of people and we all agreed the catering at this hotel leaves a lot to be desired.

This is a most elegant hotel with a long history, situated in the heart of Porto. The Windsor Room (lounge) recalls visits from many members of the Royal Family, past and present.
The restaurant offers excellent service and wonderful food, our room was small but very comfortable and the staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful during our stay.

These are the best and worse aspects of this hotel.
Best attributes
Superb reception staff couldn't have been more helpful
Very central location
Delightful main areas full of character and interest.
Worst Aspects
Rooms are very small and dated even though we were told they had been refurbished.
Roof terrace and views from most rooms very disappointing.
Breakfast choices poor as is the service, items not regularly re stocked we chose 8.30am being mid session to find very little left.
Whilst we couldn't fault the staff other than at breakfast we would stay elsewhere when we return to Porto which we definitely would. It says three star on the door and three star it is!

Just returned after a 6 night stay in a classic room as part of an Easy Jet holiday package.
Very centrally located with walking distance to shops, restaurants cafes and bars. The high Street location is very busy but once through the hotels revolving doors you are in another world.
The hotel is peaceful and comfortable and is reminiscent of a bygone era. All the staff are excellent so polite and helpful and responded promptly to any requests.
The hotel is absolutely immaculate and our room spotlessly clean. The basic classic room is small so would upgrade if visited again to a superior room.
The breakfasts were delicious and in a beautiful high ceiling dining room.
A lovely part of our mornings.
Would recomend getting the number 500 bus by the stunning Central train station to the coastal beach and fish restaurants.Just 2 euros each way per person. Also a Tuk Tuk tour and visit to Gaia over the river to one of the Port houses. The cable car ride was fun and metro very convenient too.
The pastries are out of this world and so inexpensive which was a lovely surprise.
Porto was a perfect city break and had so much to offer
We absolutely loved our week there and our stay at the Grand Hotel do Porto made it perfect. Thankyou!

This hotel is really nice, first walking through the revolving door you feel as if you're in for a good stay. Bar area and the restaurant were both very high standard. Breakfast was also very good plates were cleared as soon as you put your knife and fork down!
Rooms are of a high standard of cleanliness and a good size. We were on the 3rd floor and our only complaint which is minor, was that the floor boards in the whole room creaked which was annoying and I wondered if guests below could hear us every time we moved?
As with everywhere in Porto you've got to climb a hill at some point. But the location was great in the pedestrian only street.
I would definitely stay here again.

We had twin beds in a standard room. Just be aware, as in most European hotels, the twin beds are actually pushed together so it looks like one large bed, only the bedsheets actually keep the occupants apart.
The hotel is a five minute walk from the main station
Well when you think about it you'd have to be eating breakfast around 4 o'clock.
May be best to grab something at the airport
