Detailed Reviews
Our personal experience was excellent, so maybe my rating is higher than what other guests would rate it. It is a four star hotel, but not fancy at all. In fact, room decor is a bit minimalist except they have a thing for birds: small bird sculptures hung from the bedroom ceiling. We had three people, and were given a mini-suite: a bedroom with a king size bed and a living room with a sofa that folded out to a double bed. The bathroom was fancier than the bedroom, with marble and a nice tub/shower combo with a hand-held shower-head. The beds were comfortable. The shower was strong, hot and good. The TV was good size.
Service was very good. We pulled our car up to the hotel to unload and they gave us a map showing four nearby parking garages with their street addresses so we could put it into our GPS to drive to them. The nearest garage was 500 feet away, but a 10 minute drive due to all the one way streets. The hotel is in the historic district and the main shopping street is just a block away, as well as many restaurants. The hotel gave us each a free welcome drink. We opted for the port, with a choice of ruby or tawny. The lobby staff gave us advice and answered all our questions about visiting port lodges and other tourist activities. They are friendly and helpful. We didn't heat at the hotel or use any of its other facilities, so I cannot comment on those. The price was quite good considering all that we got. I have only good things to say about the Mercure, no complaints at all.

We stayed here in the third week of September at the end of our two weeks in Portugal. The hotel is centrally located to most attractions in Porto. We loved the tasteful, contemporary decor, and very "clean" minimalist look. Our room was larger than most European hotel rooms, well furnished, Bed was very comfortable and bathroom was very large with both tub and shower. We had a nice view of the tiled church around the corner from the hotel. The hotel is located behind Sao Bento train station but we did not hear train noise. The front desk staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Eduarda(?) explained in detail about how to get around the town and made reservation at a local vegan restaurant she reccommended. I had communicated with the hotel several times after making reservation regarding COVID situation in Porto. They responded within a business day with detailed answers to all of my questions each time. Our room was serviced both days we were there.
We enjoyed breakfast in the hotel restaurant. We are vegetarian and found varity of offerening very satisfying. We will definitely be back in future.
PS. for those who require COVID testing to return home to USA from Portugal, pharmacy nextdoor to the Imperial McDonalds in the Liberdad Square (about five minute walk) near the hotel performs rapid antigen test for 25 Euro with results in 20 minutes.

We booked this hotel for 5 nights as was really good value for money and close to most attractions, it looks modern on the outside and common areas, however the rooms are a bit dated, for example no USB ports. I checked in online and was told the I’ll just get my key but up on arrival the front desk staff completely disregarded it and checked us again which defeat the purpose of the whole process of online checking.
We booked a suite 403 which was specious . The bed was not very comfortable and squeaky, out noise woke us up around 4 am twice, found crawling insect in the room and a finger nail, all issues reported to the staff , nothing happened. A/C was not cooling just making fan noise, reported to reception, was told it’s fixed but actually it wasn’t, so I didn’t bother .
Area around the hotel occupied by homeless most of the days all the day but we never felt unsafe. There a soup kitchen project in the square to distribute food and they get noisy.
Breakfast was sufficient but nothing to rave about.
All front office staff were pleasant and courteous ( which is expected).
All in all was OK stay, served the purpose, if I visit Porto in the future wouldn’t stay there again .
Do I recommend it? If you’re on a medium budget and looking to spend your money on outside food and drinks yes.

I stayed two timeslastNovember at this nice hotel whilst on my holiday. The second time was for five days.
Perfect location in the centre, close to restaurants, cafes and historic places. About five min. walk to the Metro wich takes you to and from the airport. Less than ten min. walk to Sao Bento Central Station. Quick and efficient checkin. Great helpful Staff. Eduarda, Denise, Monika and the guy who worked with her, sorry I can't remember his name and Filipa, they can't do more to help.
I didn't have breakfast at the hotel, but had dinner many times at the restaurant. I had good food for a reasonabl price and nice wines.
Myroomwasabsolutely beautiful, teas and coffees replenished daily, very quiet and a fantastic view also a special view from the bathroom.
Worderobe with plenty space. Marvellous bed and pillows.
It's a perfect place to stay.
I can't wait to go back again to this great hotel.
Thank you to all the great Staff.

The hotel is nestled in the higher part of the city near the São João National Theater, parking can be an issue and be prepared to walk downhill and uphill A LOT. That being said, I was lucky to be offered the prestige room which had the view of the old town with a large bathroom/tub and all paid minibar (alcohol free). Had some minor issues with the shower but was promptly fixed. Breakfast was great as the view was just breathtaking and the food was fresh and staff were always around to see what you need. there's s mall garden/deck on the 6F which I didn't see anyone use it but seems like a great concept.

The location was amazing - the key attractions just around the corner. No need to rent a car, walking distance everywhere! The staff was great, the room was clean. However, we had a feeling that the hotel was rated one star too many - our
room was not very inviting, it was very minimalistic, no carpet on the floor - just plastic flooring tiles (which looked like carpet on the official hotel photos). Basically no furniture, just a bed, metal shelves and a tiny wall closet. Definitely dated.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Mercure Porto Centro Hotel in Porto, Portugal for 3 nights. The hotel is very centrally located (very close to Sao Bento train station and metro = convenient!). The room was spotless and the staff was excellent and was very helpful on multiple occasions including sight-seeing ideas, arranging taxi's, etc.
The hotel also has a rooftop patio with tables and chairs and a great view of Porto and there are some great restaurants near by as well. Get the breakfast and you won't be disappointed - both hot and cold servings with a wide selection. (We stayed in 13 different places during this European trip and this was the BEST breakfast by far.)
We had a fun 3 days in Porto but still have more to see so we will go back in the future and stay in this hotel again.

Hotel is centrally located, just walking distance to any where. Near to Luis Bridge as well. Alot of good restaurants in the surroundings. There's one cafe to the left of hotel, has very good pasteis de Nata!
Room is spacious. Bed is comfortable. Toilet is clean but without toilet brush, not good for house keeping staff.
Breakfast is really good, from warm to cold food, fruits, pastries and juices. Some days the chef will walk around to serve fleshly baked pasteis de Nata ohlala!

Hotel is in a great location. Central to everything you need. Conveniently located, short walking distance to the major attractions, restaurants and cafes. Smooth check in. Got upgrade for one room as the other room was already the family suite. The suite did not have a nice view. The view straight out from the window was the ugly wall of next door building. Apparently all the family suites have the same views. It’s disappointing to check into your suite and find such a view. Generally suites have a very good view. Good, friendly service throughout the hotel thoug. All staff were helpful and attentive. When you request something from house keeping they come really fast. The walls between rooms must be quite thin coz every time next door flush toilet or shower you can hear the water. As a Platinum member we were given complementary mini bar. Which was much appreciated. As we don’t drink alcohol, we swapped the alcohol and some soft drinks for bottled water which they were flexible with. It’s nice to come to a European Accor group hotel and the Platinum status is recognised. One small thing that could add more value to the stay is if when guests book multiple rooms, you give them welcome drinks for each room booked. This is the first hotel where they only give one drink voucher for multiple rooms booking. Highly recommend and will definitely stay here again when in Porto. Thank you Mercure Santa Catarina for an enjoyable stay.

I booked 3 rooms in this hotel for 2 nights as was travelling with a group of 6 people. The rooms are a bit outdated however still comfortable and large (we booked privilege rooms). What I was upset about is that upon check-in (which took longer than usual), when going into our room I found various parts of the room dirty; coffee splatters on wardrobe, a very dirty bed rest with finger prints and white liquid all over, and also dirty doors and handles. The second night the dirty cups where left in the room not replenished and also opened empty bottles where left in the bedroom and not thrown away when the room was done. We only had one bin in the bathroom which is a bit uncomfortable. On the plus size the lobby is very aesthetically pleasing and the breakfast is amazing. To conclude have mixed feelings about the hotel.
