We stayed at the hotel for four nights whilst exploring Porto. We booked it because of the good reviews and were not disappointed. We arrived at 10am and left our bags, returned at 2pm and although we were a little early our room was ready so we checked in.
We navigated our way to the hotel using the Portuguese metro system, (Violet line) Airport to Trinidade, then changed to Yellow line to get off at Sao Bento. It was then a 5 - 10 minute walk (easily navigated via Google maps) to the hotel. It was just up the road from the Cathedral, so perfectly located for us.
We had room number 1, which was in a really quiet position as it was tucked away behind the restaurant near the spa (with only one other room next to it and nothing above). This was a garden terrace room and had a small terrace with table and 2 chairs. The room itself was large, with a wardrobe, desk, chair, mini bar (chargeable) safe, robes & slippers. The bathroom was also large and had a lovely powerful rainfall shower. The room was lovely and bright and having the terrace meant we could have the door open to get fresh air in. We found the beds to be really comfortable and had 4 excellent nights sleep.
Room included access to the spa so we booked a 2 hour slot for one day as we wanted some chill time and was expecting some rain. The spa itself is small and limited to 4 guests (however only 3 loungers) and has a small hydrotherapy type spa pool and a sauna and ice area. We didn't have any treatments but they do offer them.
The outdoor pool area was small but lovely and had a jacuzzi, we spent a couple of hours lazing around here when we wanted a break from walking and it was a huge advantage for a city hotel.
We didn't eat at the hotel, they charge €17 pp for breakfast but we found a lovely cafe called Esquires coffee a 5 minute walk away (loads of other options) where we paid less than that for both of us.
The hotel itself was clean, all of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and the grounds around the pool area perfect for escaping busy life and having some down time.
I would highly recommend this hotel and should I ever return to Porto, would definitely stay here again.

My partner and I stayed at the hotel in a superior room for three nights last weekend. The hotel offered amazing value for money with the facilities and location being fabulous. The hotel staff were all utterly pleasant and happy to help. Our room and balcony were a good size and the shower was brilliant! The hotel is within walking distance of the shopping areas, restaurants and other tourist attractions. The river bank is about 15-20 minutes walk and about 10 mins walk to the bridge, and there is a funicular station right by the hotel that has you at the river bank in just a minute or two.
The hotel had some lovely touches including fresh fruit and water in our room each day and also a lovely bottle of wine was left for us on our last night.
Highly recommended!

The hotel just opened in December and is still brand new with very bright rooms. A big thank you to Jorge at the reception!! He was very accommodating and really helpful. The hotel is ideally located and you can easily reach everything in the city center by foot. It has very clean rooms and the pool in the backyard of the hotel is of course an oasis in this beautiful city. We could only recommend it to anyone!
Thank very much for this pleasant stay.

The second visit at the hotel (booked again because of the good location and all in all pleasant stay the first time. We have forgot the rudeness of the personnel present even at the first visit...). This time, my daughter arrived from a camping trip with lots of laundry (just basic very simple tee-shirts, some tights and underwear, and a terry bathrobe, and before even going up to the room asked for some bags for the laundry and for someone to come and pick it up once they were filled. When they did, we told the person in charge the whole load just needs to be thrown into a washing machine and then a dryer, no ironing or even folding needed when it comes out). Nobody said anything about prices. The laundry came back folded, with a note pinned on it, a bill detailed by item times the price amounting to 184 Euros! When asked at a reception, the people were extremely rude repeating endlessly the same mantra. That the list with the prices was in the room (true, we haven't checked, but they should have mentioned it in the beginning.) They were absolutely adamant that the price included automatically ironing, etc. They refused to reduce the bill even symbolically, just to show some good will.
Besides, the water from the shower was either boiling or cold, and it leaked into the room... So, Catalonia - never again.

Just returned home after a fabulous four nights in this wonderful hotel. We booked a room with a garden terrace which was just beautiful overlooking the pool and the garden is the location is excellent beautiful restaurants and bars within 2 to 3 minutes walk of the hotel the Metro station is just a couple of minutes walk away. Porto is quite a hilly city but please do not let this put you off as it’s so beautiful you can get a taxi to the waterfront for a €5 back up to the hotel so it is not an issue just around the corner from the hotel you can book the hop on hop off bus tours as well which are very convenient . We had dinner in the hotel the night that we arrived and the food was absolutely beautiful and gorgeous service the breakfast is also excellent you have a great selection and also they were cooked freshly any type of eggs bacon in the morning as well for you. The rooms are absolutely beautiful spacious and spotless clean the hotel has a beautiful garden area and an outdoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi which is so relaxing and beautiful sunbeds . highlight of the hotel for me was actually the staff they were the friendliest all of the time and so helpful all of the staff at reception unfortunate I just can’t remember all their names but all of them were so helpful in giving us tips of things to do places to see restaurant recommendations they actually book some restaurants for us which was really really nice I would like to mention Maria who works in the bath she’s always there in the morning time at breakfast and in the afternoon she is such a lovely girl and really makes an effort to chat to the guests in the hotel and we had a nice lunch as well which she recommended for some really nice pizza. The evening staff who worked in the restaurant and the bar also really nice n& friendly. Really nice guys one of their names was called Nano he was so helpful he recommended beautiful wines for me from the area as I like a rose and also recommended a nice Portuguese gin for my husband which he really enjoyed and again he recommended a nice restaurant for us and gave us information about the area it is all of these added things that really make a difference when you’re staying in a hotel I don’t think I ever stayed in a hotel that had such an impression on me the staff that work in it that is what makes the hotel absolutely wonderful I hope to come back to Porto and I would most definitely stay in this hotel again so thanks to everybody in the hotel for such a wonderful holiday we are back home and I’m in now wishing we were back in Porto

This hotel is close enough to the old centre of Porto to make walking to the main 'tourist areas' manageable. There are a number of restaurants in the vicinity if you want to eat after you have come up the hill from the river front.
The basic room was very spacious, overlooking the courtyard area and was very quiet. The decoration of the room was very pleasant too. Great shower, if a bit difficult to regulate the temperature.
We opted for breakfast at the hotel - maybe a bit pricey but with a great selection of food it set us up for the day.
It is worthwhile signing up as a member of this hotel group even for one stay as there is a small discount both for the room and food.
The staff were helpful and very pleasant.
There are cheaper (and more expensive) hotels in this area but if it is within your budget then I would recommend it.

This is probably the best city hotel we have ever stayed at. There is simply nothing to criticise. It was extremely clean and quite with a garden area to sit with a pool and where you could take breakfast if you wished. The staff were very helpful, on check in recommending good local restaurants that were better value than the tourist ones. We had a hire car booked for when we left and Mariana on reception went to a lot of trouble to check the opening hours of the car hire office. The breakfast was wonderful and included smoke salmon, fresh orange juice, sparkling wine and good coffee. We booked a room with balcony but were upgraded to a room with terrace which overlooked the garden. It's worth knowing that if you want a room with a balcony that you can sit on, then you need to book a room with a terrace, the rooms described as having a balcony just have a Juliet balcony which is too narrow to sit on.

I want to love this hotel- spotless and most of the staff is so unbelievably kind and helpful, especially the young woman that works the front desk. Rooms are very newly refurbished and clean.
The location is good but other hotels may be better.
Wifi was never an issue, I could work remotely.
Booked this hotel because of the pool- there aren’t many chairs at all. Some guests reserve chairs by leaving towels but hotel addressed that and really, everyone was kind about giving up their chair when not using it.
Main issue is a manager/supervisor (I’m assuming) in the restaurant/pool area. Her name starts with a T. Although I’m sure she is good at her job, she shouldn’t be in customer service. She exudes misery.
Also, hotel had issue with me bringing “outside drinks” to the pool area. The issue in question was a can of Coke. They have no problem if I buy it from them though. That’s not ok, in my opinion- just a money grab.
I want to love this place but they need to address a few things first.

I was only one night on 5th of March. The hotel is brand new and modern but with very nice interior design. Rooms have all the comforts. Toilet is big with great shower and bidet (very apprevciated by Italians!). In the hotel is available a spa with sauna at the price of 8€ that i consider fair enough. Breakfat with all kind of food, small portions allowing to taste a variety of food, high quality, pressed orange juice. The great added value is the warmness and kindness of guys at the reception and at the service. I will come back for sure!

Catalonia Porto, despite booking a deluxe high floor room, ended up with deluxe on noisy side
street overlooking building works. Hate aircon so always have window open and never slept the
whole 4 nights we were there. Requested to be moved but was advised hotel full despite still
rooms available on booking com. They only offered a down grade but could not view the room. Reception staff made me feel like i was an inconvenience. Chose the hotel for the lovely outdoor
pool but it was not heated. No coffee machine in the room which is surprising because most hotels despite star rating have a pod machine now.
Bed was comfy and great bathroom

Dear bex590, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Catalonia Porto. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. The deluxe rooms are all streetside. The only possibility was to move in a downgrade, and yes, the hotel was fully booked. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Yours sincerely, Beni Pons. General Manager.
