I spent just one night during a 24h layover in Porto heading to French Britain. It's really hard to see, even in the most prestigious luxury hotels anywhere in the world, the level of care with details and such a minimalist approach, so smooth, that it nevers feels annoying or over reactive. One of a kind hospitality experience that pampers with class, simplicity and a deep understanding of the beauty in passion for serving.
As soon as I entered Portobay Flores, I was greeted by the beautiful architecture and design, as well as their amazing staff. From check-in to check-out, the team was incredible. I had the joy of interacting with all the staff that would eventually become my family. They treated my daughter and me with genuine sincerity, always willing to help and put in extra effort to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. Under unusual circumstances, we needed their help more than usual on other trips and they did everything they could to help us. The restaurant staff memorized our breakfast orders and were always accommodating to our requests. We had the best massages of our lives at their spa with Mariana and great conversations with their restaurant staff, namely Anna. The receptionists, whether Adriana or Mafalda or whoever, always called to check in on us and to make sure our stay was great. Whenever we needed anything, they truly went above and beyond to make it happen and served us with love. When we return to Porto, we know exactly where we will be staying! It is situated on a street bustling with stores and people. There are great restaurants, Cantina 32 for example, on the same street, as well. The rooms are sleek, modern, and comfortably large. They promptly clean the rooms and refill the coffee machines. The food is great, whether at the bar, restaurant, or room service! The spa is magnificent a must-do! All in all, there is truly not one complaint we have for this hotel. …

From check-in to check-out and everything in between, the Portobay Flores team was incredible. Throughout my stay, I had the joy of interacting with all the staff that would eventually become my family. They treated my daughter and me with genuine sincerity, always willing to help and put in the extra effort to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. Under unusual circumstances, we needed their help more than usual on other trips and they did everything they could to help us. The manager, Ana Teresa, communicated with us regularly and oversaw that we be as comfortable as possible. She is now someone I would consider a friend. Whenever we needed anything, they truly went above and beyond to make it happen and served us with love. The whole team welcomed us into their family and by the end of the trip we did not want to leave; however, when we return to Porto, we know exactly where we will be staying - as they are not only a great hotel, but more importantly, great people. We spent 3 nights at this perfect hotel. The location is the best in the city of uphills and downhills:) Reception: professional staff with a very good English, all restaurant recommendations were amazing! Everything we asked was fulfilled . Rooms: spacious well designed super clean !! Soap and shampoo from Rituals. Bistro : Welcoming and smily staff ( although the face mask, we could fell it!) Good menu to choose from , nice winre list. Staff professional and helpful. Kitchen: It seems the head of kitchen has a lot of knowledge and experience, all kind of dishes were perfect. We had 2 dinners and breakfast and we enjoyed it very much. Highly recommended!
I gave this 5 stars as it does everything it should for a 5* hotel. The staff were excellent, the food was great and everything was as it should be. However, we stayed in one of the best rooms, a duplex suite on the 8th floor and it had no wow factor. I know during the times of covid it's difficult but there wasn't a single extra item. Normally the hotels we stay in will have a few complimentary goodies, maybe local snacks. It's not though they couldn't due to regs as they did have stuff in the pay mini bar. One bottle of filtered water was it. The room was dark, had one gloomy picture and very inadequate lighting. Very dark wood paneling throughout. One very unattractive if large sofa bed and one very uncomfortable arm chair. A few flowers or bit of colour would certainly help. And chain hotels always have a few annoying things. I celebrated a big birthday there and the hotel very kindly sent up a bottle of sparkly wine and a small (very dry) cake, but nice gesture. We rarely drink at meals but I asked as it was a special occasion could we take the wine to the restaurant, their wine, their restaurant in their hotel Yes, provided we pay 10 euros corkage. So we didn't. They gave us a glass of complimentary wine with the meal. It simply makes no sense and is designed to aggrevate. My other bugbear was the music piped at breakfast and dinner. It was, with no variation, slow, incredibly tedious modern jazz I think you describe it as. It was music to commit suicide too and by the second morning I bailed out of the breakroom room asap to avoid it. All these are simply my personal observations. The hotel is in a great spot, 300mts from a carpark which with the hotel discount is 24 euros a day. Would I return to the Portobay Flores, probably not despite many good things about it. It's just simply lacking life, colour and any form of vibrancy.…
