Amazing Hotel in an old Bank. You will not find better accommodation. The rooms are 2 floors with a shower and a separate tub, A fun part the room key is an old fashioned huge key.
The service is outstanding always willing to help. We ate in the restaurant a couple of times, the food was great. Location is perfect, everything is an easy walk from it.

We booked for a big anniversary treat after reading TA reviews and the staff and hotel did not disappoint. Our room (no.1 on the ground floor) was impressive. It was huge and well-appointed. The bed was comfortable and very large. Outside was a private terrace complete with jacuzzi, although we did not make any use of either, as it was too chilly, however it would be perfect respite from the summer heat. The waterfall shower was enormous and water was hot and plentiful. The staff obviously pride themselves on personal service, from the Manager down, and were more than willing to offer tips and advice to those of us new to the city. They were attentive but not intrusive. Breakfast was served in the restaurant from 7:30 - 11:00 and was plentiful. Filling in a request form on the previous day ensured they had your choices ready but on the occasion we forgot, it seemed no problem. If you want fantastic personal service in an impressively appointed building, then I recommend a stay at Torel 1884.

This one was long overdue. We stayed at the Torel Apartments (A short walk from the main hotel) in July 2019. We are a family of 7 and hence, had a large number of luggage with us. The staff at the hotel amazed us by arranging 3 of their Front Office executive to assist us with the luggage with a smile on their faces. We could'nt thank them enough. Breakfast was not included with the apartment however, the apartments are very centrally located on a busy and a happening street Rua das Flores filled with cafes and bars and it wasn't much of an issue. The rooms are very well appointed with smart upholstery, dining table and a kitchenette. The Nespresso machine was a brilliant addition as we love our coffee. The hotel and the apartments have beautiful interiors and are kept sparking clean. We loved the experience and highly recommend it.

We stayed for 3 nights in the duplex room (#8: had a sitting area and bathroom on the main floor with stairs up to the bed in a loft area). The room itself was very nice and the library area on the 3rd floor was very cool to spend some time in reading. This location only has 12 rooms so the staff was able to be very attentive to each guest. They helped us schedule a private tour of wineries in the Douro valley which was very nice. The breakfast was very good and included a selection of breads with butter and jam, as well as many options for cheeses and some hot dishes (UK breakfast, pancakes, scrambled eggs, eggs benedict). The room keys are actual giant metal keys which you leave with the staff at the front desk when you go out and about. Thought this was pretty unique and just added to the charm of the building. The location was very central and close to the main train station. Would definitely recommend if looking for a higher end hotel with great service.

Everything at the Hotel Torel 1884 was simply perfect. The interior is so tasteful and chic. Even the smallest details are taken into consideration. The library on the last floor is so elegant and cosy, it is to die for! We initially booked the Deluxe Double Room with bath, but were upgraded by the hotel to the Duplexe Deluxe Suite. A very nice and generous gesture from the Hotel! The room was so pleasant and clean. And sooo well decorated! The beds were insanely comfortable and soft! The location of the hotel is excellent: the very center, close to all the touristic attractions and near restaurants and bars. The breakfast was simple yet very tasty, and the hotel restaurant had its own beautiful ambiance. But the thing we appreciated the most was THE STAFF. We travel a lot, and this is the first time we’re welcomed this way. The staff is so friendly and kind. They’re all professional, always ready to help, and SOOO thoughtful. They made us feel like home and made our Porto experience much better. We highly recommend this hotel.

First of all, if your thinking of visiting Porto you MUST stay here.
Should have written this review months ago but only just getting around to it...
Myself and my partner have stayed in beautiful hotels all over the world, we both agree this is our favourite!
From the moment you walk in the decor flows through the hotel with so much thought put into every detail, it really is just beautiful and so elegant but in an interesting way with exotic palms, gold finishes & incredible architecture throughout.
Not to mention the team, they are hands down the best hotel team we have ever met. From start to finish they took care of us, giving knowledge on the city, booking us dinner each night at different restaurants and booking tours.
The manager Goncarlo I believe his name was, from start to finish made sure our experience was perfect, checking how breakfast was each morning (incredible by the way, high quality food made fresh to order each morning) even down to using Nespresso coffee, we didn’t want breakfast to end...
The rest of the team where also amazing, Mariana I think was the Ass Manager / Front of house was also brilliant. The rest of the team, unfortunately I don’t remember all the names where just fantastic and should all be rewarded for all the hard work & the experience they create.
The hotel is in perfect location and not too far from the airport.
In short, you must stay here, it’s an experience in its self regardless of visiting Porto 💜

We had booked into one of the apartments, but when we arrived to check in we were upgraded for free to a beautiful suite in the main hotel. I had mentioned in my booking that it was our wedding anniversary..... but we didn't expect anything, so what a lovely gesture! The hotel is magnificent; it was an old bank which has been lovingly renovated, very grand, huge high ceilings, honesty bar in the 2nd floor library. Our room, 'exotic bird' was huge. There was a bathroom with a big TV built into the wall, another even bigger TV in the main bedroom, lovely big comfortable bed, nespresso machine and a separate shower room. As grand as this place is it's the staff that really makes it so special. They can't do enough for you, so friendly and eager to help you plan where to go, what to do and where to eat. The bar/restaurant is nice, a great wine selection but the food menu is mainly for snacks. Breakfast was really good. It costs 15 euros, but it's worth it. You pre order the night before and it's served a-la-carte. We had cereals, fruit, full cooked breakfast or eggs benedict, ham and cheese, toast, good coffee and pastries. We loved this place and the staff made it a truly memorable stay in fantastic Porto!

My wife and I stayed at the Torel 1884 in Porto, and had an incredible experience. We recently had a baby, and my parents were gracious enough to watch him for a week while we took a break for us by traveling to Lisbon and Porto in Portugal.
From the minute we walked into the Torel, the customer service was already in full display. Someone walked in and took our bags as we checked in. The concierge and staff are so great meeting everyone where they're at. They made sure we had everything we needed, and anytime we approached them with any questions or anything, they were quick to help us out.
The rooms were also incredibly beautiful and incredibly comfortable. The cleaning service actually comes in multiple times a day which feels rare now for hotel stay. The restaurant is really great and the staff in there are super accommodating. The customer service was one of the best ever.
The hotel is also situated in an incredibly convenient location in the middle of everything.
There's so much more that I can say about my stay at the Torel but the idea is that it was one of my most enjoyable experiences ever in ~25 years of traveling, and I will definitely be back!
I highly recommend you consider the Torel 1884 next time you're in Porto. You will not regret it.

Our stay at Torel 1884 was truly memorable. The hotel is very well located close to Sao Bento railway station and close to the Douro river in Porto. We could walk to most of the places to visit without using any form of transport. The rooms were large with high ceilings and beautifully decorated, the bathrooms were very nicely tiled and had every amenity that you could wish for. Our room had a luxurious bath, a large desk and large sofa. It was very, very comfortable. The food was also very good, breakfast was ordered the night before but if you wanted something else the staff would accommodate you the next day. Cooked breakfast, croissants, fruit, cereal were all available. The breakfast was finished with coffee and pastel de nata, naughty but nice! The best aspect of our stay though were the staff, led by Luis, who was always smiling, nothing was too much trouble for him, he told us on our arrival that we were part of his family, he could not have been more helpful. The bell boy Daniel was always willing to help and Gustavo the porter was so useful to tell about good bars, restaurants and places to visit. All the staff, too many to mention were so pleasant and always with a smile. Overall, I could not recommend Torel 1884 more highly, it is a boutique hotel with not very many rooms but what an experience with a such a helpful smiling staff. Thank you.

The subway construction was up the street quite a bit from the hotel, so there was no work being done directly around the hotel. We had ZERO noise issues at all during our stay, and the location was picturesque and convenient to all parts of the city we were interested in seeing.
We stayed at the Torel 1884 suites and apartments (R. de Mouzinho da Silveira N 228, 4050-417 Porto, Portugal). From there to the Torel Palace (Rua de Entreparedes 42, 4000-198 Porto, Portugal) is about 800m (by google map). Definitely walkable but just remember Porto is a city known for being very hilly so that 800m will feel much different from walking on a flat road. The city is compact and beautiful, we literally walked everywhere doing more than 20,000 steps per day.
There are more places to choose from in the Porto area.
