We use this bed and breakfast facilty for adding days to our timeshare weeks. Situated close to Funchal Cathedral, it is very clean and comfortable, with on suite bathroom. Well priced, with or without breakfast. However, do be warned, that access and egress, is by a very steep staircase.

We booked a week here after reading reviews on mytripadvisor. What a great place, it's bang in the centre of Funchal in Cathedral Square. Well away from the tourists and the hotel district, but within a few minutes walk of everywhere. Market / marina / shops / restaurants / busses & the Museum of Electricity! Spotlessly clean rooms, friendly and...

My wife and I have stayed here several times now, having originally chosen it after reading a review on Trip Advisor. This place is a bit basic, plain rooms and without frills. Yet it's fantastic value for money and set in a lovely old house. However, what makes this place special is it's location, right on one of the most...

The review that describes this as a "travel lodge for guardian readers" is a little mean, but basically accurate. This small privately run guest house is the best located hotel in Funchal, and to my tastes much more appealing than being stuck in the dreary hotel district. Rooms are large and well equipped. We were in a back room without...

The hotel is literally a walk across the road from the Se Cathedral and is well located for shops and restaurants (Olives restaurant is at the top of the Travessa dos Arrieiros side street to the left of the hotel). It is also very handy for the promenade where there is one of the main stops for the tourist bus....

A pension with distinct overtones of Maigret. The place has a faded elegance and must have been a significant building in the city in its day. Nowadays the ground floor is occupied by city centre shops so the accommodation starts on the first floor reached up a long flight of stairs. The climb is a long one because the rooms...

We booked for one week arriving 1st January, which is a holiday. We had a large room accessed from a side street. There were three single beds, large wardrobe, table, chairs & settee, plus a two ring cooker and full size fridge. It was very clean, and linen changed every other day. The utensils were a little basic so a...

The Americana is a set of apartments rather than an hotel, and as such lacks a conventional reception. The manager can be contacted by intercom, which for us was only necessary on first arrival. Our studio room was spacious, with high ceilings. It contained ensuite bathroom, kitchen facilities and a living area. All was clean. The standard of accommodation was...

“Do not accept room 66. If you have an outside room, then you will get the noise of a very efficient bin wagon most evenings for about 30 minutes, but acceptable. I have not used an inside room.”
