Quinta Jardins Do Lago isn't consistently the number one hotel in the competitive world of Tripadvisor in Funchal without extremely good reason! Wow, what a fabulous hotel! What is so very special about the hotel is the extraordinarily friendly but always professional service and attention to detail. Every need is attended to by every staff member with extreme care. Where to start.... well, the rooms are beautiful... many folk opt for a room on the third floor for the far reaching sea and town views but we adored our ground floor room where we felt we were part of the stunning botanical garden. Rooms are individually decorated in a traditional Portuguese style, in our room the pale pink walls picked up the pink in the flowers of the sofa, stool and chair and so on. Marble bathrooms were very well appointed with lovely Prija products. Our lavish fruit basket was regularly refreshed and we enjoyed the treat of evening turndown service and delicious handmade chocolates. We have no doubt that services were probably reduced due to the dreaded Covid restrictions but this didn't impede our experience at all. We enjoyed the different options of an a la carte breakfast (don't miss the Madeiran poached pears!) all freshly prepared to order. We stayed a week and enjoyed something different each morning (but always the pears!). There are also daily fruit juices and smoothies of the day as well as regular options. The weather was inclement during our week so we dined indoors but the verandah and terrace were lovely spots to enjoy breakfast too. The service by the team was wonderful, all overviewed by perfectionist Eduardo and his old school standards of excellence. Dinner well, what a treat! Fine Dining on steroids but with plentiful portions. Every meal was an occasion - beautiful food and amazing service accompanied by a superb wine selection. We were blown away by the lovely Portuguese and Madeiran wines (the surprise of our holiday). Our favourite being a delightful Madeiran Rose called Atlantis, do try it. The pool area was very spacious with very comfy loungers. A newly renovated large pool a pool bar and a restaurant for lunch. Normally there is a jacuzzi and sauna but of course they were out of use "due to Covid". The star of the show is the famous Colombo - a 62 year old tortoise (of questionable sex!) who is known throughout the island, taxi drivers requested a desire to see "him", having heard about him since childhood. The gardens are just stunning, beautiful for a wander with spots to sit and relax. There is lovely arboretum, gazebo and pond with fish. The hotel offers a regular shuttle service down the hill into the town. If they weren't busy, Marcellino or Joel would happily drop you wherever you need to go. Otherwise taxis were plentiful and cheap. Although the hotel doesn't have a spa for treatments, the sister hotel Quinta Casa Branca offers beauty treatments and massages and the shuttle service will happily drop you off. When I needed my nails done an appointment was made for me and I was dropped and collected from a nearby delightful nail bar. Nothing is too much for the team at this hotel. Your wish is their delight and you only need to ask. So this leaves me to thank Mr Alberto and his team for a fantastic week being treated like royalty but with many a laugh and relaxed chat shared. A huge thank you to the aforementioned Eduardo, Marcellino and Joel but also to Rubino, Dara, both the Vitors, Sabastore, Hermes, Sabino, Andre, Christina, Mariella, Gemma, the excellent housekeepers (always with a smile and greeting) and the back stage team. Thank you so much for making our last week in Madeira so very very special indeed - we will be back! It's really great to know that we now have friends who just happen to run the best boutique hotel on Madeira!…
Spectacular hotel from every point of view. Truly a top-notch experience. Every need was taken care of, we were pampered and attended to in every way. Staff was wonderful including making all arrangements around Funchal during our stay. Facilities were beautifully elegant and sophisticated but comfortable. Dinner was a true haute cuisine experience. The garden and the pool are fabulous.
We were two of the last guests to arrive before the ban on UK tourists to Madeira on December 20th, We are so glad we made it to experience a two week Christmas and New Year wonderful holiday. With their extensive COVID aware measures in place we felt completely safe in the blissful environment that is the QJdL. We have spent the last 4 Christmas holidays here where we meet up with other friends from England Scotland and Germany, all sadly missed because of the current pandemic regulations. Ambience, food, cleanliness, comfort and attention to detail of the highest standard as you would expect, Mr Alberto Reynolds and his staff went to great lengths to keep everyone happy and contented in these troublesome times. Even though the hotel had been closed for 9 months everything was spick and span and the gardens immaculate as always, and even the resident star attraction Colombo, the giant tortoise was pleased to see his adoring fans. The Christmas and New Years Eve gala dinners were as delicious as ever. With hand sanitising units place strategically at every entrance COVID compliance was effortless. Well deserved accolade as Number 1 on Tripadvisor, Our advice do not miss out on a visit to this wonderful hotel.…
if you appreciate good old-fashioned service excellence then this is the place for you. every aspect of this hotel has quality service at its core. the gardens are the other outstanding feature. they are amazing enough to be a botanical garden visitor attraction without being part of a hotel this was our second visit and we will return without doubt
Had a great stay in December and was very glad to be able to get away from the UK for a few weeks and was definitely worth the effort. As you would expect from a first class hotel, all the covid measures were in place and strictly followed by the staff which was very re-assuring. Madeira has very low covid rates yet most people still followed distancing rule and used masks, so I felt more comfortable in Funchal than at home.
