The charming 4-star hotel Quinta Bela São Tiago was originally a traditional Madeiran Manor House built in 1834. The manor house and its extensive gardens have been carefully restored to create a paradise right in the heart of this lovely old district. It's located in the historic centre of Funchal. Within a 5 minutes walk, you'll find many of Madeira landmarks, such as Fish and Flower Market, the Monte cable car station or the São Tiago Fort.

Came to this Hotel earlier in the year and it was great which is why we returned at Christmas, the hotel is still lovely but little things we noticed had slipped slightly, the tissue holder in bathroom was empty from when we arrived to when we left, not an issue but maybe remove from bathroom if not going to provide them, the towels had seen better days, we were there 9 days and bedding never got changed, in July the eggs, omelette etc got cooked as you waited, this time all precooked so hard and cold, room very dark, struggled to get ready in evenings, saying that the hotel was clean, Staff friendly and helpful, location brilliant for bar and restaurants, view from room was amazing, as I said just a few things that had dipped a bit from 5 months ago.

The Quinta Bela is centred around an old manor house located above the Old Town. It is in a quiet part of town not surrounded by other hotels but is within easy walking distance of many bars and restaurants. The view from our room was over the terrace to the nearby church and beyond to the harbour. There is so much to see sitting on the balcony overlooking town and harbour. Bring binoculars to watch harbour activity. The hotel has all the facilities you would expect including secure parking if you hire a car. Staff are friendly and helpful. Just one small problem - bring a torch as the trendy 1970s remote control lighting has a mind of its own and one night we were left with no lights in the bathroom. This was quickly attended to in the morning and the staff were most apologetic.

EasyJet holiday during extra covid restrictions. The hotel is just as nice as it looks in the photos and the room size is very generous. Be aware the land view rooms are quite noisy with traffic particularly at the weekend. But this didn't spoil our holiday. We used the pool twice but it was quite cold. The breakfasts were good but by the end of the week very repetitive. The hotel is at the end of the old town. Full of character but traditional cobbled streets and steep gradients can make walking difficult if you have mobility issues.

Stayed here for ten days end of October/beginning of November. The hotel is in a good location close to the old town with its restaurants and bars. Good sized room with a wonderful view of the Ocean. worth upgrading to a sea view room. All the staff were welcoming and approachable. stayed on a b&b basis, It was lovely taking breakfast on the terrace overlooking the sea. There was also a decent sized swimming pool in a picturesque setting. we will definitely return here
