I’m very pleased with my stay at alto lido. All of the staff is very serviced minded and very nice. Everything looks just as the pictures when you book. They have been so helpful at the reception, as it was my first trip to this island - I was a bit confused, but they helped with everything. Even looked up busses for me! (Big credits for being patient with all of my questions) The most impressing part for me was that they had a special area for gluten-free food at the breakfast. I was really surprised that they even served gluten-free bread and some “dessert” as well! Ate dinner at the hotel once as well, very professional greeting by the chef - he went around all the dishes with me and made sure to let me know what I could eat. If you’d let him now in advance - he will even cook especially for you! Can’t even describe how rare this usually is - completely amazing. Breakfast overall was really good! Their coffe machine made better cappuccino than baristas haha. The staff in the kitchen/diner area also really kind. Room has been nice and tidy, smells fresh/clean/neutral. Cleaning staff also very nice and helpful when you meet them in the hall.

We have just returned from Alto Lido and although the reception area is really pleasant and appealing over all we were disappointed in our stay . A complicated layout is not helping the visitors . We had booked a suite but were given an “apartment” which in fact was just two interconnecting rooms the second having a kitchenette. No soft furnishings . The breakfast every morning was supposedly hot and cold buffet but would have been better described as barely luke warm and cold buffet , even when we attended as soon as it opened at 7am . The pools are nice but not sufficient in size if the hotel was full. Terribly uncomfortable sun loungers top off a disappointing stay . Pleased we only booked a week and lost 1.5 days due to being diverted to Tenerife due to high winds I think if we had been booked for 2 weeks we would have asked to move

We were moved here from the Savoy Palace by Jet2 when all flights in and out of Funchal were cancelled due to bad weather. The interior is bright, clean and smart and we had a good sized bedroom with balcony and bathroom. The view from the room and balcony was particularly bad with a huge building site right adjacent. The 2 elevators were inadequate for the 15 floors of the hotel and the minimalism is not useful. After arriving in our room, we discovered that there was no information in the room and no useful information on the TV so with no info about wifi access and no phone in the room, I had to go back down to reception. After receiving the wifi logon details, I went back up to our room. As the wifi connection would not work, I went back down to reception again, got my phone connected and went back up to my room. After dinner, there was a long line of people checking in and a long line waiting for the 2 lifts. The long wait for an elevator was impossible so we found another elevator at the other end of the hotel which only went to the 4th floor. After walking thru the hotel on the 4th floor, we then walked up to our 6th floor room. Fortunately we were not on a top floor. The next morning, so many people were leaving that the elevators were either bypassing our floor or descending full so, yet again, we had to walk down. There were many others also walking down the stairs, some even carrying their luggage as well. The mattress was exceptionally unforgiving and was little more comfortable than a plank of wood. On the other hand, the shower and wash facilities were very good indeed. The food for lunch and dinner was of a mid market all inclusive buffet with a number of salads but only 3 or 4 meat/fish options. While the large plates were hot, the food was barely warm. As with many hotels, the beer, and I'm sure all drinks, was a big profit earner, €4.50 for an identical beer and volume to that which we bought outside the hotel for €0.70. Out of choice we would not stay in this hotel again.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback . We are pleased to hear that you liked the room decor, the shower and wash facilities . However, please accept our sincere apologies for any unpleasant experience you had while staying with us. The night you stayed at our hotel was due to unexpected circumstances, as flights were canceled reservations were made at the very last minute and we had many people checking-in and checking-out at the same time as you know. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide a better experience. kind regards,

We stayed here once and that's enough. Nice modern, bright and clean room overlooking the building site. Long queues for the elevators. Noisy and confusing corridors. Resturant? no works canteen! with food that would make the workers strike! Friendly helpfull staff. Nice little wine bar just down the streeet.

We stayed in this hotel after seeing it on a previous visit to Madeira. I originally thought it would be out our price range as when we priced it originally it was expensive. 2 years later we get to experience a great hotel. The rooms are stylish and spacious with comfortable beds and all mod cons. Previous reviews said take you own coffee/tea as none are provided, however we had a note saying it was available at reception. We didn’t try as we took our own, but there was plenty to take from breakfast room. Speaking of breakfast the food was good and plentiful and staff were friendly and offered tips for excursions etc, especially Umberto who was sensational. There was a courtesy bus which ran to town and back which was a great time/money saver. We came back to see the Christmas lights as we were told how good they were and these were awesome. All in we had a fantastic week, with good weather, hotel and staff and a great time. Would choose again
