Our third visit and as before faultless. Room clean and tidy. Breakfast enjoyable. Excellent location. Staff very helpful especially Maria. Hotel has a front facing balcony on the top floor which is excellent for watching the cruise ships coming and going and people watching in general
A reasonable 3 star hotel. Very conveniently located in the town center, just next to the cathedral and very close to the restaurants and main sites in Funchal. The breakfast was very good, with eggs, ham, cheese, bread, fruit and more and coffee brewed to your taste. Receptionists are very nice and helpful and the taxi arrived on time. Front facing rooms overlook the cathedral and have a glimpse of a sea view. The rooms are quite dated though and the balcony door had an up to 5 mm gap from the frame when fully closed, so I had to fill it in with a toilet roll to protect from the outside noise and draft. It was still OK and good value for 1 night connecting from Porto Santo to Europe. Would not stay for much longer though.
You could not be more central, the hotel overlooks the Cathedral. A particular feature is the original late "art deco" interior. Either you think it looks tired or you revel in it's under stated elegance. The best room are at the front and have balconies, 101 & 102 have theirs on top of the canopy over the door. They are large rooms with comfortable chairs for sitting in. The bed is also comfortable. One gripe is there are few drawers for storage, though the wardrobe is large. There is a fridge and a safe which you have to pay for (not impressed). A particular feature is a panoramic lounge with a terrace on floor 5 giving a view over the cathedral to the sea beyond. There was plenty of good quality food available for the included breakfast. A particular feature was the coffee machine that did excellent expressos among a number of choices, including Nescafe!. They will arrange for a taxi for airport transfers at 30 euros one way. You can pay for this when you leave but it has to be cash. The driver is the weekday evening porter so can arrange your trip back directly with him or even any island tours.…
We had a one night stopover in Funchal and I booked this hotel because of the location and reviews. I was not disappointed. Very good value, great location and very clean. Our room and bathroom were in excellent condition along with the rest of the property. Wonderful breakfast, helpful staff. Our room did not have a balcony and overlooked residential apartments where we could see inside. Not so great but would definitely stay here again and would recommend.
The hotel is a bit old, but in a good condition. The staff was friendly and helpful. There was hot and cold dishes for breakfast, but the breakfast area was all too small and cramped. The walls was a bit thin. Stupid placement of switches to bedside lamp, easy to turn on when in sleep. No suspension to the shower nozzle in room 404.
