The difference between this hotel and others was evident from the moment we parked our rental car in the hotel's spotless garage, and one of the staff came down and took us to our room. That was followed by a signing of papers and showing of passports in a comfortable, casual setting downstairs. We probably had the best room, a...

The hotel is situated in a nice and quiet residential area about 750 m uphill from the old town of Funchal. During the day there are several buses right outside the hotel, taking you either to the bus station near the harbour or the Botanical Garden and Blandy Garden. In the evenings you have to walk or take a taxi....

Hello Pandora_Muc, thank you very much for your kind comments. We too feel lucky to have a bus stop right outside our front door, as well as the sweeping views across the harbour that can be enjoyed from many of the rooms and of course the outdoor terraces. We do hope that you will return to Madeira and choose us,...

We hadn't planned on taking a summer holiday this year as we were nursing our sick dog but sadly she died and we were so upset we wanted to get away for a few days at very short notice. Luckily for us Madeira (never been there before) and the Arts in Hotel Conde Carvalhal popped up on the screen. Neither...

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Cook, thank you for such extensive and complimentary notes on our team and our property! We were only too happy to share a few insider secrets, particularly as you were so keen to know the local favourites. We too think that breakfast on the terrace is a jewel of the hotel and feel glad that you...

There are a lot of hills in Madeira and getting to this hotel involves walking up a steep hill. There is a bus across from the hotel. In the heat, it might be tiring but I have no problem. If you can get this part out of the way, the hotel and its ground is very pleasant. When we arrived,...

Nuno and Samantha were wonderful, friendly and superbly welcoming. The hotel has beautiful views of Funchal from the delightful garden, and is approximately a ten minute walk in to the centre. Will definitely be staying again! Thank you for making my stay so lovely x

This was my first trip to Maderia for a walking holiday with my wife. We wanted a hotel with views and only a short walk from the old town where many of the bars and restaurants are located. We were not disappointed. The room was a spacious one bedroom suite in the beautifully and sensitively renovated 'old' house with its...

Beautiful hotel very modern. Staff very helpful and polite!! Rooms are extremely spacious, clean and very modern. Bit of a walk up the hill, 10 min walk from old town there is a shortcut when using google maps. Bus stop is actually at the door on both sides, which is very handy!! Thanks for a great stay!!

Hello Amanda, thank you so much for your kind words. We always joke that the walk up the hill means that we can indulge at dinner! Indeed we are privileged to be located right next to not just one but two bus stops. We can't wait to see you again. With warm regards, Samantha and the team

Lovely little hotel (just 18 rooms) extended beautifully from the original 'stone' Madeiran villa. New rooms (we had a top floor room facing the front/sea) are very tastefully decorated, as are the public spaces (inside and out).
