Port do Sol is very well located within walking distance from the city centre. Old building that would benefit from some restoration, simple but enough for sleeping, shower and quick breakfast. friendly staff. cheap place, not for everyone.

I booked this place in January needing a break for health reasons. I saved about a £100 compared to a proper hotel. What a mistake indeed... When I arrived I noticed there was a dark, forbidding atmosphere to the hostel. Situated close to one of Funchal's main arterial roads this was never going to be quiet. My first room had... More

We stayed here for a week, since the price was fantastic, considering the closeness to the city centre. We were able to go out to the clubs on the weekends just walking, and to do some shopping there was a nearby Dolce Vita Shopping Mall. The rooms were cleaned daily and very well. We did saw some bugs, but for... More

The first thing I noticed during my stay was the kindness of the staff, which began as soon as I checked in. The breakfast is a bit basic but tasty, especially the freshly baked bread. I stayed in room nr. 25 which had a balcony with an amazing view of Funchal. The room was cleaned everyday and always looked neat.... More

We stayed here in March and it was just warm enough to really enjoy the included breakfast on the terrace (wheat bread and watery coffee). The staff was very nice and you have to ring the bell downstairs to get in, so they know who enters the hotel. Location is great, walking distance to centre but you don't have to... More

Quiet, 5 minutes from the center of the city, clean! The employees were very kind, specially during breakfast and when we checked-in. We had a room with view over Funchal. The room is great for the price it is.

Really good accommodation for very affordable price. Staff are very friendly, but they don’t speak English a lot. On the other hand we didn’t have any problem to agree on anything. They are very helpful, gave us some advices regarding trips and cruise to Porto Santo and they kept our baggage in the hotel free of charge for few days.... More

Well I rated it very good cuz it is reeeeally cheap (like 20 dollars a night), still it has all u need, and much better than a hostel (that u can expect for this money). The staff doesnt speak english at all. Would recommend it for young ppl on a bugdet as a good hostel alternative.

Just back from 5 nights 5-10th July. This turned out to be a really nice place to stay, I had looked at some of the reviews on here and elsewhere and although they were generally good I confess, as booked single room, thought I'd get an internal room, view of rainwater pipes or no window (happened before - another Country)...
