There are some pros and cons: We stayed there 6 nights and this was way too long. (We asked the first day if we could cancel the last 2 or 3 nights but they didn't agree). Although it's very cosy, clean and very nicely decorated, it's not so comfortable. The room is rather dark with little light. The bed linnen...

Set in an old mansion, Almaa hostel is a peaceful and relaxing place which was perfect for Sintra. Sintra doesn't have much of a night life, but is an incredibly beautiful and peaceful place to walk around. The staff at Almaa are friendly and the building has large gardens you can stroll around. There is incense burning around the house...

This is possibly one of my favourite homes away from home. I have nothing but great things to say about this place. The staff (Christina and Ricardi) are helpful, funny, and passionate. Our baby was treated like a rockstar. The breakfast is good (we bought eggs to have some extra protein.) The grounds are a gorgeous oasis away from the...

For the money it's a nice place to stay. The room was big and the place is cosy. Seems to be an alternative/hippie place The bathroom and showers are not the best but ok. The breakfast was acceptable and the service very friendly. Overall I'd recommend it

You won't like this place: - if you want to party or watch TV. - you don't like dogs - you're expecting a 3, 4 or 5 star hotel. - 15-20 minute walk (1.2km) from historical centre. - lovely tranquil atmosphere in quiet location close to Quinta De Regailleira - friendly and good vibes and well thought out public space....

Away from the noise and tourists but walking distance from the town centre, this amazing hostel is a fabulous heaven with 12th century garden and the most welcoming, charming staff ever.I'll be back and have told all my friends.

This hostel greeted us in the best possible way! We wanted a cozy and calm place to stay in for our one evening in Sintra, and we found exactly what we were looking for. With it's short distance from the super-touristic center of Sintra, we felt like being miles away from everything else but the nature. Clean and simple, cozy...

Wonderful place to stay for those who love old (really old I mean) buildings with long history. You'll find a lot for you imagination especially after girls at reception story about that the building was built in 12 century and las family left hose only 5 years ago So I "could" see families life during ages in this house

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Almáa Sintra Hostel is a retreat center and an Eco Hostel located in the heart of the Sintra Mountain Range which cultural landscape is classified by Unesco as a World Heritage Site. Our house is sited in a property considered the oldest in Sintra, dated back to the 12st century, with 3,5 ha of luxurious gardens. We offer private and shared rooms in a heavenly environment. The Hostel was named Almáa, which means "The Water" in Arabic, due to the influence of the moors in this region and the fantastic natural spring water that supplies the house, and waters the gardens. "Alma" also means soul in some Latin languages. Our beliefs in sustainability and in helping one another, made us manufacture our furniture with recycled materials done by local artists with the help of third sector entities (charities, voluntary organizations and social enterprises) that are also our main suppliers. ... more   less
