Welcome to Hotel Convento do Salvador. Located in the heart of Alfama, one of Lisbon's most legendary neighbourhoods, the Hotel is just steps away from the city's main tourist attractions: St. George's Castle, Sé Cathedral, traditional bars and restaurants, Fado houses, down-town Lisbon and Praça de Comércio, museums, belvederes, the famous no. 28 tram which passes right outside the door of the Hotel. Hotel Convento do Salvador is an innovative socio-economic project which sets out to support the cultural activities of the Centro Convento do Salvador, geared towards children and youths, and operating in the same building. The services offered by the Hotel, namely the organisation of meetings and events, are a result of a liaison with this Youth Centre, which has different types of venues and equipment at its disposal. A display of artworks by some of the most renowned Portuguese contemporary artists may be viewed throughout the Hotel, in both common and private areas.

Don't be put off by the narrow street leading to the hotel and its entrance, once inside it is modern light and airy. The staff are very friendly and helpful, they gave us some good recommendations for local restaurants. The reception area is clean and bright with comfortable chairs to lounge on and a small bar, leading off is a court yard which has tables and chairs, in summer this will be a great place to eat and drink. The bedrooms are a good size with well thought out storage, ours overlooked the court yard. The bathroom was a bit on the small size but very clean and well laid out with very good toiletries. The restaurant for breakfast is on a mezzanine on the 1st floor, there are only a few tables and it can get busy ,you may have to wait for a table. The serving area is a bit tight but the food is of excellent quality and is replenished often. There is a good selection of cold foods and a small selection of hot food..
The hotel is ideally placed for the no 28 tram that runs from just at the top of the street and there are plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. We enjoyed our stay in Lisbon and will return to the hotel in the future.

A very nice, modern small hotel in the Alfama district of Lisbon, 10 minutes walk from the castle of St. George and very close to tram routes. The hotel is about 20 minutes by taxi from the airport (cost 18 euro). The rooms are clean, and quiet at night, with firm comfortable bed, air conditioning and double glazed windows; there are plenty of good and moderately priced restaurants within walking distance. The staff are very friendly and helpful and there is an excellent range of food served for the breakfast buffet. On foot, it is about 15 minutes to the impressive waterside Praca do Commercio, and a further five minutes to Cais do Sodre for buses/trams to Belem, or train for the beaches of Cascais and Estoril (40 minutes by train), and the metro system.

Stayed for 4 nights August 2020, stay was lovely, the hotel had lots of coronavirus measures in place, masks in public areas, time slots for breakfast etc. Room was nice and clean and just the right size. Staff were brilliant, all really helpful and accommodating. The value for money on the hotel was also excellent.

The former convent is somewhat hidden in a quiet location in Alfama, the oldest district of Lisbon. A good starting point to explore the city. The hotel and rooms are modern and the helpful staff will assist with any questions travellers may have. The breakfast is rich and offers cheese, sausage, scrambled eggs, bacon, various fresh fruits, yoghurt, muesli, different types of bread, croissants, of course pastéis de nata and various coffee specialities. A great start to the day. The hotel is highly recommended.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Convento do Salvador very much. Location was perfect for wandering the Alfama and beyond. The building itself seemed very freshly painted and well maintained, and we loved the vibe of this space. It was sleek and minimalist, well designed and extremely clean. Breakfasts were ample and a great way to start our days. And despite a week of crazy, relentless rain, it was so lovely to come back to our cozy room, relax and dry off (and warm up) during the afternoons and evenings. We had to leave well before the breakfast hours on the last day and it was so nice they even packed us to-go bags.

In the heart of Alfama, a convict which was transformed to a stylish hotel. Small, but convenient rooms, very clean, excellent breakfast. The city center(Praca Commercio, Rossio) can be reached on foot(about 20 minutes walk), or by tram 28(stop a few meters away). Nice lobby(you can have a beer, or a glass of wine), friendly and attentive staff. If you travel for a long weekend to Lisbon, this hotel shoulg be your choice!

Hotel Convento do Salvador is one of Alfama’s hidden treasures. I spent six nights here staying in a quiet single room equipped with every amenity I could wish for and a lovely view overlooking the convent courtyard. The room was kept spotlessly clean by the hard working, professional cleaning team. I really enjoyed the hotel breakfast which provided a very good choice of hot and cold food/drinks, the fresh fruit salad was delicious.

When I arrived I was greeted by Fatima who made me feel so welcome and at home throughout my visit. Both she and all the Reception team were super helpful and knowledgeable and no request was too much trouble for them.

I visited a variety of restaurants in Lisboa but my outstanding favourite was Restaurante Alpendre near the Cathedral, which serves fresh fish and other lovely Portuguese dishes at very reasonable prices. Thank you Fatima, for recommending it to me!

The hotel Reception arranged a ‘Discover With Us’ tour of magical Sinatra and Cascais which was an amazing experience.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and if I return to Lisboa I will definitely stay here again.

This review covers this hotel’s inappropriate and non existent customer service. I booked two rooms for two nights at this hotel for December 2020 in February 2020. I paid for the room in full in February 2020. Long before COVID restrictions came into the world. After COVID, Portugal shut down its border and did not allow ( this continues to be the case) Americans into the country. I emailed the hotel three times, they NEVER responded to me; as a paying customer I find it extremely disrespectful. Then I called the hotel three times and spoke to the front desk three times explaining the situation which they already knew. They told me they would get back to me after every call, and they never did. The way they advertise themselves and the fees they charge are not commensurate with the lack of respect and service. They should not be doing this in the middle of a pandemic. This was the only hotel in Portugal that did not honor a credit (if we put not responding aside for a minute) upon forced cancellation of our vacation. Disappointing experience with this establishment and needless to say we will not be staying at this hotel during our delayed family vacation to Portugal.

Regarding the complaint in question, we hereby inform that this was a No-Show for a non-refundable reservation made on our website. The client contacted us on October 28 and a reply was sent to him on October 29, mentioning that we were available to issue a voucher for two years, to which we did not receive any response from the guest. We would also like to inform that, as we have not received any response to our email from the client, we have carried out the usual reservation no-show procedures.

This is a real find. We stayed here for 3 nights and would definitely reccomend it. The whole hotel is spotless and the staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you. Breakfast is €10 but the food is excellent. The bar is small and quiet in January but may pick up in the summer. The hotel is serviced by both the 28 and 12 trams which stop no more than a minutes walk from the hotel.

As someone new to traveling abroad who also has to eat GF and rarely emerges from parenting and work life, I was immensely pleased to find ample gluten-free options at this hotel’s generous continental style breakfast spread with kind and thorough staff insuring I had ample options to eat. The rooms themselves are contemporary, eco chic and comfortable and the courtyard is charming with sounds of birds chirping and the occasional rum of the streetcar traveling nearby. Expect low water pressure as an eco conscious feature yet not at all lacking in effective cleansing or appropriate comfort for a worn out traveler.

It is difficult to find the front entry the first time as it is located down a smaller traditional alley that most vehicles cannot traverse but a very easy downhill walk from an intersection where am Uber or taxi can drop you off. Lovely all around and well-worth the upfront confusion of finding the entry.

A special shout-out to Tanya and her colleagues in the dining space for her generosity, preparation, communication and thoughtfulness! Thank you!

Is breakfast included with reservations. If not, what is the cost?

Hi there, there are two prices offered, one with breakfast, one without. Would hilly recommend the breakfast. Helps fuel your walking up the hills!
The best option to use the metro is take it to São Sebastião(Red Line) and change to Santa Apolónia which is on the end of the Blue Line, aftweards walk to the Fado Museum and once you reach the museum you make a right and then a left turn and walk all the way up the Regueira Street this will bring you straight to the Hotel this will take you 15 minutes walking.

Sorry, just saw your question. No parking at the hotel. There is parking near the Porta del Sol Miradouro (lookout) which is very close by. I'm not sure how readily available it is or how much it costs as I didn't have a car. I saw cars going in but don't know if it was a public or private set up. If you email the hotel, they should know. The staff are very helpful.

Laundry can be put in bags and left out for chambermaids or handed in, price list in room, usually back same day if handed over early enough
