Cheap an very central. OK if you want to sleep only. BUT... — I had a double-room, because I wanted to have a bathroom for my own. It was so small, that if I wanted to sit on the toilett, I had to go in backwards! Not kidding! So it ended up with me using the other bathroom. — The...

We had a room (end of corridor) with own bathroom (and radio in a shower :D ) and tiny balcony. Drinks and snacks we kept on public fridge. Location was perfect. Many sights and shops were in walking distance. House is old and renovation wouldn't do bad. You can hear traffic noise inside (but it wasn't problem for us. we...

The hotel is situated very nicely in Lisbon close to amenities and local attractions. It is with deep regret that this is as far as my compliments can go. Firstly, we were greeted by the receptionist who was also the cleaner. It transpired she was under qualified for either task. Very short and un-agreeable as a person and very dependant...

If you value hot water, and prefer faeces not smothered over toilet seats... this is not the hotel for you. We've just returned from a 4 day trip, and I would 100% recommend that you never visit this place. Let's start with several flights of stairs to get the the hotel, the receptionist who was only capable of replying with...

At first glance and fell, almost as if you stepped into someone's old house that was transformed into 2 stars or maybe a 1 star bed and breakfast room. On the second day it became at least a 4 star on suit style hotel room. And the location is as if you're at "The" best location that you can think...

With some improvements it could be much better: the women's bathroom is quite bad, and like many things in this place it looks old and dirty - even if it isn't. Quite small room, but with a nice tiny balcony, I would have liked a better lock for the room's door, didn't feel really safe like that. One girl at...

This place is really old and reception was not friendly when we came up late! We asked for internet password and it wasn't working that evening - receptionist just went home! next day internet appeared magically and balcony doors could not shut properly! We couldn't feel safe leaving out our stuff there. Also was ridiculous having shower in the room...

I arrived two hours after the ETA due to flight delays, at around 17h00. No one was there and everything within the building was locked. I tried knocking several times, ringing the bell and calling them on the phone number they provided but nothing worked. Finally, what I assumed was another guest came out but he (she?) slammed the door...

This guesthouse is in a perfect location, easily accessible from the airport (between metro stations Baixa and Rossi) and easy to get to the main meeting points in Lisbon. It is on the fourth floor without an elevator, which makes it pretty difficult to carry the luggages (though it is an old, XVIII century building so this can explain the...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
