Although perhaps a little hard to find, with quite a climb when pulling suitcases (a taxi is value for money). The initial welcome is friendly. We arrived early for check in, to which they promptly allocated us a room instead of having to wait. The room was spacious, with an amazing view overlooking the city. Each day staff were polite, ready to...

Our rom, 303, was perfect. Besides being comfortable, it has a beautiful view that can be enjoyed from the room or terrace. The attentive staff enhanced our visit. This is a small boutique hotel that made us feel welcome in every way. WiFi worked great and we liked the buffet breakfast. If you like big lobbies, gyms and pools, this...

Shawn, Ines, Rui, and the barman were all excellent hosts. They all are passionate about Lisbon, the hotel, and making sure our stay was great. Their knowledge of the city...

The hotel's staff were very cheerful and informative. [Joao, Ines and Gois] They insured that our stay was enjoyable and our city excursions comprehensive. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. It was wonderful to be able to make our own coffee in the room. The breakfast buffet provided a great start to our day. The hotel's position, to visit...

This was our last stop in Europe, touring mostly Spain. We only had a few days in Lisbon but the staff, especially Ine's at the front desk helped us make the most of it with advice on eating where locals eat and short cuts to get around the hills, like where the hidden elevators are in town and where to...

This is deep in atmospheric Alfama, a stone's throw from the Castello. Rooms are spacious and impeccably clean. Reception are hugely helpful and knowledgeable. They directed us to great local restaurants, advised us on trams, provided parking, all with a smile. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful. Recommended.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
