Great location within the outer walls of the castle. Comfortable room. Friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfast available until noon. Reported two minor problems and the hotel fixed them immediately. We would certainly use the hotel again.

A fantastic hotel. Staff were pleasant and courteous - really took care of us. The hotel itself is very well done and is rather beautiful, both inside and outside. Loved the free bottle of port wine in our hotel room upon arrival - loved it even more in that it was refilled everyday! Bed was comfortable, room was large, Wi-Fi...

We had a wonderful weekend stay at Solar do Castelo. The hotel is beautifully renovated and our room was large, modern, clean and comfortable. The great bath products, comfy robes and slippers and complimentary port wine were very much appreciated. It was nice having tea, coffee and pastries available in throughout the day in the lobby. Breakfast was a tasty...

Very quiet location next to the castle, and away from the city. Its no problem walking up the hill. It only takes maybe 20 mins through the tourist shops and bars. The all day coffees and cakes are a godsend.

What a lovely and very unusual hotel! We loved everything about our stay. The room was excellent and the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. We particularly enjoyed the opportunity to have a coffee or tea and a cake after a day exploring the delights of Lisbon. We would love to go back some time.

We visited this hotel on 04.02.16 to 07.02.16. Having read previous reviews we were expecting something special and were not disappointed. The hotel is situated in the castle grounds and used to be part of the castle kitchens. The staff are very helpful and know the area well. It is well worth spending a few minutes with the reception staff...

An excellent little hotel once you have found it !! We arrived at 10 pm with a taxi driver from the airport who couldn't find the street. It is a real challenge, as the streets are extremely narrow, hilly and cobbled. In the end our driver telephoned the hotel for directions. Once found, it isn't difficult - through the arch,...

The hotel is located in a beautiful site, on the top of a hill, just near the ruins of the Ancient Castel. The place is quite and may be hard to be reached on foot with luggages or stroller but it worth the light effort. Very good breakfast with fresh fruits and orange juice. They offer also a teabreak in...

Very nice small hotel in the Alfama. Staff is more than helpful and multilingual. Breakfast was very nice (included in our deal); the orange juice was amazing. The coffee and pastries that are always out were wonderful and great after a long day exploring. We had a small room but it was very functional and although it faced the "street"...

Dear Guest, Thank you for staying with us and for sharing your opinion. We are happy that you enjoyed our Portuguese charm. The Alfama is the oldest district of Lisbon , spreading on the slope between the São Jorge Castle (Lisbon’s cradle) and the Tagus river. Its narrow streets, alleys and views are a pleasure to see and it feels...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
