Wonderful historical local. Well maintained and updated. The staff couldn't be beat.Streets there are very narrow, so if youre driving, get a narrow car.The ambience is varied throughout the hotel and a joy to behold.

HOTEL’S FAVOURITE REVIEW
Reviewed 24 December 2016

The Solar Do Castelo is just steps away from the entrance to the Castle and part of the oldest area of Lisbon. Winding, narrow streets, interesting little shops and cafe's plus you can walk down to the port area or to the Old Central District. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. They provide a very nice breakfast that runs late...

The Inn that is situated on the Castle grounds is beautiful. It maintains the flavor of historic Portugal, fountains, tiles and garden patio areas. All the people that run and maintain Solar are professional and very friendly and extremely helpful. The peacock added his own colorful display. We miss it already! Deborah and Miles Anderson

Our family of 4 with teenaged sons stayed here for three nights. The staff are very welcoming, they kept our luggage as the rooms were not yet ready. The rooms are well appointed, comfortable beds, extra blankets and nicely renovated bathrooms. There is complimentary port in the rooms, robes and slippers as well. The breakfast is extensive with hot and...

Staff very helpful with directions, suggestions for restaurants etc. All their duties were carried out in a quiet and efficient manner, A fantastic choice for breakfast and ingredients readily replenished. Would be more than happy to recommend this hotel if you are looking for quiet, peaceful accommodation.

My husband and I visited this hotel for 3 nights for our anniversary. It may be the best we've ever stayed in. The rooms are gorgeous and we even got complimentary port wine in the room! The courtyard is beautiful and the perfect place to enjoy the amazing breakfast buffet. Make sure to include the buffet when you book. It's...

Beautiful hotel situated adjacent to the castle in the district of Alfama. Breakfast had a great selection to choose from including Bucks Fizz which was a lovely treat. At all times of the day complimentary hot drinks, water and cake was available in the breakfast lounge which was good after a days sightseeing. All the staff were very friendly and...

Really impressed loved the setting.Customer service was excellent far better than most 5 star hotels. Breakfast was better than most as well. We stayed on the romantic package and this included a bottle of fizz chocolates and nuts. This was cheaper than the normal rate for 2 nights. Will definitely stay there again you do lisbon proud.

This is an excellent hotel, with a wonderful setting, and very helpful staff. The lounge is a delightful place to take breakfast and to relax in the afternoon. The surrounding castle with its peacocks is charming.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.

“Loved my room overlooking the courtyard.”

“Our room overlooked the courtyard and the peacocks from the castle often flew in and at night a fire pit was lit which was great to sit beside. We were on a 'Romantic Lisbon' package with Expedia and that included in our room. The bed was very big and the bathroom toiletries were Molton Brown which I think says it all about the quality of the hotel.”
