I had some doubts about booking in this place after reading the comments, but honestly, it's a very nice hostel, very well located and for not too much money, breakfast is not the best one I've ever had but it accomplishes its mission as required. However, I need to admit the establishment is quite noisy, but if you don't have...

The location was good enough close to the center. The reception area was quite a climb two floors up from street level and was run down looking. The staff was very friendly. We stayed in a room with private bathroom and shower. It was dark and also run down looking. Three days out of five there was no toilet paper...

Very good location in Alfama close to the center or rather in the center of Lisbon. Rooms are simple and the whole place not superclean but totally fine. Wifi is available in rooms. Staff was at reception 24/7. There was a fridge in the room and a heater. Breakfast consists of bread, jam and coffee but hey, you're in Lisbon...

Excellent location. The place is basic but with its charm. We stayed in a room with private bathroom. Not luxury but is enough for everything that we need. The room is sunny and the bathroom is clean. There are restaurant downstairs, but we don't hear noises at night. We were very happy staying there and will definitely go back if...

Dirtiest and stinkiest hostel ever, just disgusting!! Location is ok, located behind the church on a private access road so your tour guide may have difficulty to pick you up at the door. Our local guide told us that this is not a real hostel. It’s really a place for those ones that need few hours of “nap or fun”...

The location is superb, just next door of the Sé and in Alfama. However, the price is a bit high for what you get. It is not superclean (bathroom) and some rooms are very very noisy. The personel is friendly and breakfast ok. It is a good hostel, but a bit cheaper (it was 20 euro pp for triple without...

In the Alfama district right beside the Cathedral and short distance from the Castle with bars and restaurants right beside. There was a lot of life there when I stayed for two nights. The room was comfortable and clean but not luxurious. I would certainly go back.

Not the best I have stayed in but then I wasn't paying five star money, I got what I paid for and I was happy with that, the room was clean and linen changed ok, the only fault that I could make with the room was that it needed more ventilation as the carpet coming out of the bathroom gets...

We have staid for 5 nights in this hotel. The rooms where neat and the owners are extremely friendly, they will help you with everything. The price is very reasonable, sertainly with the location. Including in the price is a breakfast, also basic but nice. Then again, if you're looking for something chique you have to go elswhere. But we...

Very well located, you can touch the Sé, very good price BUT the rooms are really run down. Facilities are in very bad condition, especially the bathroom. I would not recommend this place unless you have a very tight budget.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
