When we asked a friend who has been to Lisbon a number of times - "where should we stay?" - the answer was Palacio Belmonte, and nowhere else. After three nights in our suite, we will give the same answer to anyone going to Lisbon. The quality of the suites are absolute top and the discrete elegance of this old...

Private, tranquil, spotless and with excellent customer service, all perfectly located in the centre of Lisbon. You feel like you are the private guest of the owners from the moment you walk in. There are only a handful of suites, each with their own character, maintained by a small team if extremely obliging staff who manage to provide you with...

Preliminary note: I think the key to a wonderful stay in the Palacio Belmonte is to gather as much information about your desired room as possible. They are all different and many would not suit those with physical limitations. Ask about views, architectural details and bathrooms before booking. See below for information about the suites. The Palacio Belmonte is a...

We stopped here en route to the castle. We had several drinks in the courtyard next to the big flower cube!! Drinks quite expensive but served quickly and a there was a lovely atmosphere. It's also a hotel and I believe tapas is served also out in the courtyard. It's a pleasant way to spend an hot or so people...

This hotel is grossly overpriced for the facilities and services it provides. They charge 6 star prices but the experience is more 2 or 3 star. The property itself is stylish, well-located and has lovely views but is terrible value for money. The hotel has no elevator, no air-conditioning, amateurish service, unreliable hot water and no phones (or ways to...

The service level is more like a 2 star. Very often there is none at the reception desk. English is poor. When we left their machine was "broken" so they couldn't give us a receipt! Courtyard horribly busy. Room was like living in an old monument. Interesting but uncomfortable.Three flights of very steep stairs in a one bedroom! You have...

We stopped in the café to get out of the rain and because we saw they had a small play area for children and decent light lunch options. We ended up staying for a couple hours in the cosy, friendly café. Our daughter got to play with all the toys that are made available. The staff were friendly, helpful and...

We didn't stay at the hotel but had drinks at the Cafe; which presents as a separate entity off the street. At the prices they charge it's surprising anyone would drink there; there was only one other couple when we were there and at the prices they charge that's now clear why no one drinks there. We were charged 7€...

What an amazing, charming hotel. Extremely accommodating staff, and a delicious, ample breakfast. The property is stunning, and each of the rooms have lots of character. I would highly recommend!! Of note: 1-It's located in the old town, so it could be a little frustrating to drive yourself. 2- The wifi is only in the common areas.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.

At the Belmonte there is no crowd, no noise, no chocolate on the pillow, no television, just fresh air, space, light, your own laughter and music. For an experience beyond compare, far back to our roots, to our childhood, to fantasy, let Palacio Belmonte be your house while discovering the wonderland of Portugal. Palacio Belmonte offers 10 suites, all different, all unique, some with terraces, winter garden or built in a Roman tower with 360º view or in a Muslim one on top of a 40 meters high rock, all equipped with fully modern bathrooms, natural ventilation, a Mediterranean garden and black marble swimming pool to relax, read or dream. House of the Earl of Belmonte, Cabral and the Marquis of Atalaia for the past 500 years, the Belmonte is a stunning sculpture, a 2197 years synthesis of Portuguese history. It became a few years ago the House of a Landscape Collector. He then decided to open his house to a very few for whom luxury is synonymous of encountering one's emotions. Palacio Belmonte prides itself on delivering memorable unique customized experiences for those who choose to stay with us. For this reason Palacio Belmonte suggest experiences that can be personalized for you, whether it be a fabulous sunset in a yacht on the Tejo River, a private tour to unique architectural features of old Lisbon, your own private Fado singer, a special day out with wine, olive oil tastings and Lusitano horses in the Alentejo or maybe a dinner at the unique local "Tascas" in which you will experience the real authentic Portuguese hospitality. The Belmonte is the most veiled secret in Lisbon... And definitely a place to experience! History, Architecture, Culture, Sustainable Development...
