Travellers' Choice
Enjoying the best possible location in Lisbon, this modern boutique design hotel is born, like a phoenix, from the ancient structures of one of the most historic hotels in Portugal. The daring use of the colour Lilac in its façade, right on the traditional Rossio Square, denounce to the world the purposes of reinvention and exclusivity offered to a happy few.

We stayed for 7 nights in Feb 24 in Room 407. We paid approx. £115 B&B per night. The hotel booked us a taxi from Lisbon airport for 40 euros. On the way back, it is 25 euros and both ways it took less than 30 mins. Pros Location -excellent. Room had a great view of Rossio Square. Close to bars, cafes, shops, restaurants and transport links such as bus stops, Rossio Metro station, trams, etc. Bed – super king size bed which was comfortable with nice bedding. Amenities – safe, hairdryer, TV with Sky News, minibar (payable) Front Desk Staff – cheerful, friendly and professional. A special mention to Rita who was fabulous, even showing us to our room when we arrived. Cons Breakfast - served in Bastardo, the hotel restaurant and was OK but limited. There were juices, pastries and you could order omelette or pancakes. Most of the staff were disinterested and disengaged at breakfast – there was no supervisor or visible leadership so you had to keep nagging them if you needed anything. Maintenance – lots of issues such as the curtains hanging off the rail, balcony door broken, mould in bathroom grouting, cracked tiles in floor, computer not plugged in. Felt poorly managed and unloved. Could be a super hotel with some better management of the building. The lift was broken for 3 out of the 7 days we stayed. We had to ask to use the Service Lift but the staff were not forthcoming about this – we only knew this was an option from another Tripadvisor post. Size of room was quite small but we expect that in a capital city. Storage was lacking for two people staying for a week and lighting was poor. The hotel restaurant Bastardo serves mainly fish with no vegetarian options. Dama & Vagabonda is a pizza/pasta restaurant next door with indoor and outdoor seating. Very casual. We got 30% off food with a business card given to us and stamped by Front Desk as they are the same owners as the hotel. We also loved nearby Squadra, an Italian restaurant in the My Story Figueira hotel.

Nothing negative to say as the reception was professional and kind and gave us all the information about our stay. The room was clean and comfortable and we had a high quality service as one day we found in our room chocolates offered by the hotel. The position is strategic as you have all the main attractions very close by and metro station too.

This is our first trip to Lisbon. Based on Trip Advisor search we chose The International Design Hotel located @ the corner of Rue Augusta and this turned out to be a perfect choice. This hotel has made our trip very memorable for the following reasons:- 1. Excellent location. The location of this hotel is so good that our city guide Andre remarked that we can’t be in more central place than this hotel. 2. Excellet staff: We were checked in by wonderful duo Sofia and Saulo who were extremely polite and warm. Sofia explained all the sightseeing areas and tours available for experiencing the amazing city of Lisbon. Next day we met a charming Christina and affable David at the reception. They all excel in their mannerisms and attention to detail. 3. Outstanding breakfast: Breakfast is simply mindblowing. There’s large variety of cheese options, salads breads, cakes and variety of fresh egg preparations. 4. Excellent Restaurant: Food @ their restaurant Bastardo is delicious. Prices are reasonable. The tables have good view of Rue August and the historical Piazza. We found the F&B manager Miguel a bit haughty and impolite. The room tariff and restaurant prices are very reasonable and therefore have great value for the money. We love the city tour of Lisbon and want to come again in future to explore more of Portugal. We will certainly choose this hotel again for our future stays. Strongly recommend. You can’t find any fault with this outstanding hotel.

The room was spacious and comfortable. The location was excellent, right in the heart of the city. The windows blocked out all street noise but did open if you wanted to hear the city sounds. The bathroom was well appointed with large tub/shower unit. This is a preference for me.. I do not enjoy vessel sinks so take note of that small detail if you feel as I do. Every hotel team member we met was gracious, pleasant and very helpful. Great hotel in a lively part of town. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is I could see a few chips and blemishes in the bathroom. Nothing critical that diminished our comfort but was noticeable. Highly recommend!

Stayed here 4 nights, 3 too many. The room was small, which was ok, but NOISY and no warning when booking if the price reflected a discount for the noise (it most definitely should), and no warning when we checked in. We brought ear plugs which did not help much. The room itself was very poorly designed. The clothes closet was completely unuseful. Only 2 small drawers and to access those you had to be a contortionist as they were on the floor in a corner, so to access you are smushed by the side table. Still, none of these was the worst. The WORST WAS NO DOOR ON THE BATHROOM. A shaded glass sliding door provides zero privacy and is not a door ZERO PRIVACY. NONE. This is not an exaggeration. A person outside the bathroom and in the room will know EXACTLY what is happening in the bathroom. And if your partner uses the facilities in the night the light comes through the door and will wake you. Breakfast was ok. The best part was the staff - seriously nice and helpful, but not enough to recommend or stay there again.

Great location. Very clean hotel. Friendly staff. Lift broke during some of our stay so that was inconvenient. Room with a view was great, able to open the balcony. We included breakfast so that was convenient. Service was excellent

We arrived at the International Design Hotel and didn’t know what to expect because it was a boutique hotel. To my surprise it was beyond my expectations. The location is perfect near most of the sights, the room with our little terrace facing the fountain was just lovely. The staff was extremely helpful, especially Gerson Inacio who assisted me with locations on the map of the cities restaurant etc.The breakfast has a variety of selections that will satisfy anyone’s appetite. We even had the pleasure to have a delicious dinner at the restaurant. Every aspect of my stay at the hotel was handled with personal care. I even had the pleasure to meet the hotel manager Luis Simoes who takes the pleasure of meeting with his guests. I will definitely return to International Design Hotel on my next visit

The hotel is located in a really convenient position, very central with bars and restaurants close by. When we arrived and there was a demonstration in the square outside, we were worried about the noise but everything was very quiet by 10pm and we were not disturbed overnight. The hotel was clean and the rooms were comfortable and spacious. Coffee machines were a nice bonus in the rooms, although 3 pods per day seemed a strange number. The bathroom door was a frosted glass swing door that didn’t “close” therefore ensure that you are on very close terms with your travelling partner. I would not recommend for anyone with a disability in terms of access, there are steps and stairs everywhere and for the duration of our stay, the lifts were out of action. We were able to use the service lift but this was two flights up. Breakfast was lovely, a continental breakfast with bacon, scrambled egg and vegetables also available and fried eggs and omelettes to order. We stopped in the restaurant for drinks on a couple of occasions, be prepared to wait. As per other reviews, the service is terrible. We couldn’t work out why this was, there were plenty of staff, sometimes 7 standing around. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Absolutely hands down the best location in Lisbon! We loved it! With that said, Lobby was certainly different, actually there was none. 2 chairs in corner and desk, clean, modern, perfect staff....however lift was broken....big problem ...we were on the 4th floor....so they told us to use the service elevator in the back of the hotel....oh yikes.....so they moved us to this sweet room on the first floor....amazing room...but I just cant imagine how other travelers on the top floors felt about that. We love Lisbon! The front desk arranged a semi private tour for us (8 people) to Fatima, Obidos and Nazare! It was fantastic, the guide was amazing ....I forgot his name. A big fault with the Hotel, but simple to fix is the Welcome Drink. It is the most Unwelcoming drink EVER. When we went in for the drink we were sent to the "welcome drink table" way over in the back corner, served our drink and not a soul came by after that! Geez, we wanted to PAY for another glass of wine, but we were completely ignored. Please IDH...change that.....its quite simple! But we love you anyway !
