We recently visited Portugal and started our trip with three nights in Lisbon. The Brown hotel They have three all within close proximity, was in a great location. We walked all around the area, close to the water, tours and outstanding sea food restaurants. The Brown had wonderful helpful staff who gave good advice. Breakfast was served at the nearby...

This is my third visit to Brown's Downtown in Lisbon. As always the welcome and service offered by the staff can not be faulted, indeed I wish many organisations offered the quality of service they do. The quality of the wifi has improved dramatically from previous years and I didn't have any problems connectivity at all. Room cleanliness was as...

This hotel did not disappoint on any level. Front office staff were very welcoming and accommodating in making reservations and recommendations for us. Room was well appointed and very modern. Could not have been in a better location and within walking distance to all the sites. One note if you are driving in with a vehicle the street it is...

Loved the room - lucky enough to get the suite on the top floor. It had a great view (except for the giant crane), looked modern and had a comfortable bed. The morning staff was fantastic, very helpful and friendly - providing great tips for our trip to Sintra. The afternoon/evening staff were very hit and miss. The woman there...

A very well designed boutique hotel in Lisbon - chic and Danish. Location is as central as you can get in the capital city. Sights, restaurants and shops are all within walking distance. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room where we stayed is clean, functional, inviting, albeit a little tight, space-wise.

We spent 3 nights in this great hotel in central Lisbon, just meters away from the famous Chiado squre and popular streets. Our suite was spacious and had a magnificent castle view. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. They provided a very nice bottle of champaign as a birthday gift for my girlfriend. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel...

Very nice, modern and clean room. The staff was fantastic, very helpful and friendly. And the hotel is situated perfectly close to the Metro station. However, the room was not soundproof at all as we could hear every footstep in the corridor outside. The breakfast was okay (served at the brown's boutique hotel) but not worth paying extra for if...

We selected this hotel partially based on previous reviews here on TA and partially on its hip and inviting web site. It didn't disappoint. This was our first stop on a two-week trip around Portugal and Spain. Our hope was for a modern, quiet, well air-conditioned room to help us get over our jet lag, and that's exactly what we...

Really friendly and helpful staff. Rooms had micro kitchen with fridge hob and kettle and utensils. Plan to buy at nearby supermarket and save on breakfast and evening snacks. Does not have a bar area, but has free coffee machine in lobby. Many good bars and restaurants in different price brackets very close by. SHort walk to Tram 28 stop....

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
