We decided on the The York House as it was highly recommended by some friends. I now believe they must have stayed there some two hundred years ago. As you enter the place you jump in a world of sadness and tiredness. No smiling face. No one is greeting you. No help. The room we stayed in was so empty...

Lisbon is the THE city right now. It's hard to pin down exactly what it is that wraps you in its charms. Certainly the physical setting of labyrinthine streets falling down hills to the harbour river. The broad light that last til late in the day, reflecting off the faded glories of Lisbon's seafaring, royal, colonial architecture. The discovery of...

This is a lovely friendly hotel off the beaten track, but still an easy walk to transport links. There is a train stop at the bottom of the hill which will take you to the centre of Lisbon one way, and Cascais and Estorill the other way. The hotel has an unassuming entrance off the street, with steep cobbled steps...

This hotel is a beautiful, comfortable oasis in busy downtown Lisbon. Unassuming from the street, you climb the stairs to enter a courtyard oasis surrounded by beautifully appointed (not modern) rooms. The staff is friendly and exceedingly helpful (especially with your bags up and down the stairs). And their restaurant is fantastic. We ate there the first night because we...

The Your House has comfortable rooms, good food, and a beautiful terrace hidden away from street noise. Lush trees and vines and flowers provide beauty and shade. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. The neighborhood is worth exploring, even though it's a bit out of the way. About equidistant from Belem and from the Alfama. Strong and free wifi....

Unfortunately the area around York House is being renovated and there is rubbish and graffiti and building going on all around. There is steep uneven steps up to the hotel and a "strong man" comes to carry your bags. Up top is a lovely terrace where you can relax and have snacks or drinks and beautiful meals. The staff are...

For sure a great past and it could still be a fantastic place , but it would require the intervention of some smart interior decorator in order to give a new and fancier look . The location is quite interesting . It is an area of Lisbon not very central but which is rapidly coming back up . Several new...

Old style hotel with lots of charm. Facilities are basic but very adequate. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms are small but comfortable with all basic facilities. There are quite a few stairs to be climbed from the street and then to the room.WiFi is free which is great. Overall I would recmmend this hotel

This hotel is full of charm in every corner. From the entrance at street level you have to walk a number of stairs surrounded by flowers and trees before you reach the courtyard terrace and the entrance to the reception. Once their you get a friendly welcome. Check-in was fast and efficient, and without asking, my bag was brought to...
