This is our second stay at a Casual property, the first one was in Madrid. Just like that one this one gave us an exemplary experience.

I have no clue what the reviewer from France is indicating but this place is legit, we just returned from there 3 days back. Firstly people, they are friendly and helpful at the desk and the room are just immaculately cleaned. Second is the build quality of the rooms and the beds, Casual Lisboa has just been renovated in 2020 hence the rooms are modern, tasteful and artfully furnished. The next aspect is the ease of communication, they are available via WhatsApp and super responsive- cannot say the same thing about Marriot's and Hiltons. The most important for our family was the availability of quadruple room, 3 beds to sleep our family of 2 teenagers. Last and the most important to most people is the location, it is diagonally opposite the most popular Bifana place in Lisbon- Alfonso. It is 10 mins walk in all directions to all major eats and sights. Cyril was a standout at the front desk giving a lot of tips.

Minor improvements- they could only do heating and not A/C in the spring so we had to open the windows to let in the cool air given it was in 60's outside. They should also provide a basic water kettle and coffee machine, surely costs peanuts.

Overall a 5 star experience for a great price and at a prime street, made our visit to Lisbon memorable.

Dear Guests, It's so great to hear from you on Tripadvisor - every comment is important to our team so that we can learn and do better next time. We are firm believers in communication before, during and after your stay. Having the benefit of modern technology, it's a must to be on stand-by 24/7/365, but also the human aspect should not be forgotten. Nevertheless, plans are afoot to introduce tea and coffee making facilities in rooms and suites, while for the time being tea, coffee or even hot water can be ordered from the bar to the room. And as we mentioned before, a few software tweaks have already enabled better distribution of a/c capabilities so that guests wishing hot or cold air both remain happy in their quest for comfort. Thank you so very much for choosing Casual once again, we'll be hoping to retain the family feel of the Belle Époque for many years to come. Sincere regards, General Manager

We stayed here during our weekend break in Lisbon in November 2021. We booked here because we liked the style of the hotel and had been recommended this part of Lisbon to stay in.

We were not disappointed. The hotel is in a great location, a short walk from the castle, restaurants, main squares, shopping and the riverside. The staff were also really friendly. I've been learning to speak Portuguese and the staff were very patient and helpful with me!

The room was very comfortable, albeit perhaps a little on the small side. My wife is pregnant and needed more time resting in the room than we would usually during a city break and we were really happy with how comfortable it was.

I'd say the only negative would be the breakfast but I appreciate that's because I'm British and tend to prefer cooked breakfast options. There was some bacon and scrambled eggs each morning but not much choice. As for cold, continental style breakfast options, there was significantly more choice ranging from cheese, ham, fruit, yoghurt, cereals and pastries etc.

E à equipe do hotel, obrigado por nossa estadia adorável na Lisboa.

This is a very well located hotel. We requested a quiet room, which we got and in a city this is not easy I'm sure! The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was a good continental spread as you would expect for a hotel if this size. The coffee machine was good which is an essential for a caffeine addict like me!
We were allocated a room that looked like it was wheelchair accessible (though I've no idea how you could get into the hotel in a wheelchair). This meant we had a slightly larger bathroom but the toilet was very unusual/uncomfortable,I nearly asked to move room but we were there for only two nights. The shower was great, rain head and plenty of pressure with Rituals products provided. The bed was comfortable and fresh towels each day. There was a hairdryer, fridge and TV. Free wifi code with good reception. I have no issue recommending to friends but think it's more 3 star than 4.
If you are getting the Metro, get off at Rossio as it's most direct, just be prepared for a walk uphill!

We had a reservation for March 17-March 23, 2020; the hotel looked great and we are sure it is a wonderful place to stay. On March 12 we cancelled due to the COVID pandemic; the reason for the cancellation was provided. Our reservation was of the prepaid type, with the usual perk of a reduced price. We wrote directly to the proprietor (not the chain) and asked, under the circumstances, for our payment to be refunded, and were told a refund was impossinble due to the specal rate. Yes, the proprietors were responsive and professional, telling us we could use the funds for a future visit, which was fine, in theory. The future reservation had to be for a stay prior to September 31, and they said they would appreciate a plan for the dates of the future stay within two weeks. We replied that September 31 was unrealistic, and certainly a two-week window for new dates was equally unrealistic, given the uncertainty of the pandemic (and, as it turned out, given the sequel, the correctness of the decision to cancel the trip). The proprietors extended the date for use of the funds for a new reservation until Dec 31 of this year; an improvement, yes, but, again under the circumstances, not particularly satisfactory.

I suppose our reason for posting this review is to suggest the potential problem with a prepaid reservation (a savings of around $100 US). But there is also our lingering unhappiness with what we see as a failure to recognize the exceptional circumstances under which the cancellation was made. We feel for businesses everywhere, and do look forward to a future stay at the hotel, but who knows if the plans can be made for a trip before the end of the year? And wouldn't it have made more sense to refund the money?

Some of the questions below had to be answered, e.g., the "When did you travel?" question.

Gary Weismer, Madison, WI USA

The Casual Belle Epoque Lisboa location could not be any better with the ability to walk around Alfama district and have access to other areas of Lisbon using transit.
First impression, as we walked through the door, wasn't "wow" as we found it to be gloomy with a very small reception desk.
Using the stairs to our assigned room on the second floor, the carpeted stairs, in places, needs to be cleaned. This theme continued into our room where the floor is completely carpeted and once again, stain evident. The bathroom is very small, which is understandable however, the recent chalking in the shower must have been done by a child.
The bed was comfortable and linens clean.
We enjoyed the breakfast which is offered on floor -1....yes, one level below the main floor but explained as "-1". A full selection of breakfast fare is provided.
The hotel rating is a mystery but I don't believe it warrants four stars.

The rooms are comfortable if a bit small - the beds could certainly be bigger for Northern European standards, but all in all this is a good, quiet place. Helpful staff who will give you tips and tricks about what to do and see in the city. Another plus is that they offer parking at a stones' throw away + they accept pets.
Very extensive and yummy breakfast buffet.
I would stay here again.

Dear Peter, It's been such a pleasure having you with us at the Belle Époque! Needless to say, we love pets, albeit with some simple house rules, but it's fantastic when pet lovers can actually take their "kids" with them on a journey. Our staff are at your disposal 24/7 to ensure that everything goes smoothly and all you have to worry about are the Lisbon's 7 Hills. That being said, our guests can take full advantage of public elevators located only a few meters away, such as the Baixa Lift and the Castelo Lift, open free of charge during the day. The Casual buffet is designed to charge you with energy in the morning, so mission accomplished there, yet another box ticked. See you soon in Lisbon and at the Belle Époque! My warmest regards, General Manager

This was one of the nicest hotel rooms we have ever stayed in. We were in room 101 which was massive and had plenty of space. The decor was very stylish and had loads of storage space. The beds were very comfortable with a choice of pillows and the air con was a god send. Also, there were plenty of towels for the 3 of us which is surprising quite unusual.
The staff were so friendly and helpful, especially Cyril and Fucundo (apologies if the spelling is wrong). On arriving Cyril gave us lots of recommendations on places to visit and how to travel around. They were always so welcoming and made the effort to say hello whenever we passed.
Location wise you are very close to most things. The cathedral is only a 5 min walk away and although you are on a hill, most things are within walking distance.
We had a fantastic stay and would definitely recommend staying here if you are in Lisbon

We had fantastic short break in this lovely hotel in Lisbon for a family celebration in March 2022. Located In downtown Lisbon and close to most of sights, restaurants and shopping made it that much more convenient.

The rooms were comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated.

Staff, especially Rita and Carlos, were friendly and so helpful even before we arrived at the hotel. Nothing was too much for them, whether it was booking a restaurant, advising on trips and sights to see or arranging for flowers at short notice, they helped us with a smile.

Thank you and obrigado all for a lovely break!

I can't believe that many commentators estimate this hotel is good.
At first, the entrance was small, old and miserable. In the room, there were a lot of problems : The carpet was stained a lot and sale. I think it wasn't changed for a long time. I couldn't close tightly the cover of the bathtub because its size wasn't right. So when I tried to pick up it, I was very surprised to see that it had a lot of long hair. The fence of the bathtub was also broken. so whenever I used the shower, water was leaking on the floor. The dryer wasn't working well. Then , the salle of the breakfast was very cold. There were few things to eat. The coffee was not tasty and the water for tea wasn't hot. The photos of this hotel are very different from the real one.
Despite these things, the price were very expensive. I regret not reserving another hotel.
I can't recommend this hotel.

Dear Customers, First of all, we wish to thank you for your feedback and it's greatly appreciated, although we are obviously disappointed that not all aspects of your stay at the Belle Époque had been perfect. While we work hard to ensure that our guests have a wonderful experience, we are positive that there's always a margin for improvement. It would be greatly appreciated if you could possibly contact us via our usual channels and tell us exactly what happened in order to find out more. For our morning coffee, we use only the best beans and the coffee machine is provided by a well-known brand; the temperature in the breakfast room is kept at an optimum level for better food quality.
