I have booked one night in the Guest house, the price seemed pretty ok when I checked the pictures, but when we arrived had to find out the rooms were not really like on the pictures, also nobody mantioned the 5 floor of walking up since the guest house is on the top floor of the building! After a party...

My friend and I stayed here from 23rd-25th of November and for the price we paid (€70) for two nights for both of us it was amazing, the view from the bathroom was straight towards the castle and it was amazing at night :)! The only drawback was the 4 flights of stairs to get to the guesthouse but we...

My booking was through Booking .com plus a photo and comment in 50 Secret Places in Lisbon that it was the Best Budget Guest House. Nothing warned me that his accommodation was on the top floor of a five storey building. No lift, eight flights of stairs, with ten steps up each flight and more importantly no fire escape. No...

Can't beat the location, but interesting layout. Definitely a guesthouse/hostel not a real hotel. The staff was very nice but don't expect your own bathroom. There is a shower but no bathroom in the actual room. There are three shared toilets in the hall and a shared kitchen. It's also 4 flights up old stairs so be careful if you...

What I liked: Nice and clean kitchen for the guests. Friendly staff. Great view from the toilet window! :) What I didn't like: 4th floor, and no elevator. This info is not provided, so bear this in mind.

Basic but comfortable for one person. The staff/reception do not speak English & were not helpful in recommending places to see/go which was disappointing as I had not been to Lisbon before. I needed information and help to print a bus ticket which they did not help me with. The hotel is on the 7th floor with no elevator. Highlight...

While the location near the downtown 'Rossi' train station couldn't be better, everything else is very much lacking. It's on the 4th floor and there's no elevator so be prepared for a steep climb up. They only take reservations through booking.com and there's no English spoken. In operation since 1895, the Hotel Imperial is clean but worn and dated. As...

Room was really nice and well-furnished. We books 4 nights in a room with private shower (no toilet though), but we were able to use the shared toilet, which was very clean. Free tea and fruits all day in the kitchen too. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful as well! There was no lift, so make sure you're fit enough...

Situated very near the metro station Restauradores this hostel is quite difficult to locate. The entrance is not very well signposted and the hostel access is situated on 4th floor climbing 80 steps. Not good if you are elderly or infirm. Shared lounge and kitchen facilities. Clean pleasant and tidy this hostel is in a great location near bars and...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!

“It's in 4th floor with no elevator, come @14 check in time to get help with the luggage. No A/C, but door and window gave enough breeze.”

“Room 411 is at the front of the building, overlooking the Praca. It does have a shower and sink, and it was nicely comfortable. However the door is right behind the entry door causing a few clashes to enter and exit as the entry door is often left ajar during the day. It's also where guests are greeted and made for a very disruptive sleep on a busy check in night. Staff are vey helpful and I could hear all the great tips being shared in the hallway whether I was interested or not. If you want a front room, try 410, 412 or 407. I'm also not sure what the smoking policy is but our room had a lingering smoke smell, which we insisted was fine, and It was. But the in the middle of the night, I smelled fresh cigarette smoke which may have been from the balcony of the room adjacent. Power outlets (and therefor the WiFi) would go off occasionally.”
