Centrally located in Lisboa, a stones throw from Baixa-Chiado metro station and very close to many of the cities tourist spots. When you come out of the station turn right and keep walking until you are just past The George Pub on the left. There is a sign for Pensao Galicia Residencial. This is the right place. The Pensao Royal...

My partner and I - both in our late 30s – decided to stay here based on the Tripadvisor reviews and central location. There are noticeably a lot of hostels in Lisbon, which equally have great credentials, however, I gathered these were more aimed towards younger backpackers. We stayed for 4 nights and paid 22EUR each per night for 2...

Pros: The staff was super friendly and helpful getting around the area. Great location and close to both train stations. Enjoyed that it included a breakfast though it wasn't the tastiest. Price is good for what you receive in your stay. Cons: The place is quite old and walls are super thin. Heard just about everything happening downtown including homeless...

Super friendly staff, always looking to assist or help guide you and nice cozy quarters. The room we stayed in was pink and felt more like a children's bedroom than a hotel but all part of the charm. Great location and good value for money.

Nice cosy refurbished old hotel only a short block from the metro, the main shopping street and from the famous #28 tram, and two blocks from the big square by the waterfront. Quite a few stairs (equivalent to 1 1/2 floors) up from the street. Big choice for breakfast.

Amazing location right in the centre of the main part of Lisbon. And very near to metro station. Within walking distance to main sites and public transport I'd wish to day trip out of the city. Disadvantage was had to climb 70 stairs to get to it and no lift, wasn't a problem for us but worth bearing in mind....

The 2 ladies who I presume owned and ran the place were really friendly and made our stay really pleasant. They obviously enjoy making sure people have a nice stay and the breakfast provided a nice selection in the morning. If you want a hotel, go to a hotel; if you want a friendly (albeit slightly quirky) guest house in...

Maria is a darling, whose smile and care made my day. Her interest in us and willingness to do everything in her power to make us comfortable made my Lisbon experience incredible. PLEASE note - this is a guest house and if you understand upper class hostel you won't be disappointed I chose this "guest House " because of the...

The Rensao Royal is a great vacation value, located in the very center of Lisbon, half a block from the Baxia-Chiado Metro station. The heart and soul of this homey guesthouse is Paula, who seemingly does everything, from staffing the reservartions phone/internet to greeting you at the door, to cleaning (and the place is wonderfully clean) to preparing the famous...

I have just returned from a third and sadly final visit to this Pensao. My previous reviews from stays in October 2012 and February 2013 described amazing breakfasts, warm hospitality and beautifully quirky rooms with lots of character. I loved my earlier visits and I wanted to experience it all over again, and invite my new partner. Reflecting back on...

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
