We stayed here for 5 nights and booked the deluxe room. A queen size bed with attached bathroom. The room and bathroom was clean. The house itself is old and charming and that is what we wanted so don´t expect everything to be 100% correct. I come from Germany, if you know what I mean. Breakfast was okay. There is...

Hi good location in the center. Thats it for the positive feedback. Booked double room for 2 adults and a kid. They gave us a double room with extra matress on floor and changed it 2h later so that we had to move. There was no extra bed for the kid so that we 3 had to sleep in a...

Dear guest, It’s a shame that you could write something like this review, only to harm the property, because you were requested to pay for an extra bed for your kid. Like you had and have the opportunity to see when reserve a room at our property, you are informed that the room have capacity for 2 adults + 1...

We stayed in the deluxe double room and it was a small gem. The building is ancient and the hostel is nice, taken care of and well organized. The room was like in a nice little hotel and had quite some flare in it. I loved it.

Our stay at Johnie's Place was excellent! The location was great - only 5 minutes from the castle - and the 6 bed dorm we were in was perfect for a city break as we were out all day! But it was the friendly staff and the relaxed atmosphere which really made our stay so special. The living room and...

We stayed 3 nights at Johnie's Place with my boyfriend and I have to say that the hostel is perfectly located. Alfama is the oldest part of Lisbon where you can really see the real Portugese lifestyle. Furthermore 1 minutes from our accomodation can be found one of the most amazing view spots and sunset spot as it is situated...

We had a double room with shared bathroom, the room was bright with shutters no noise from the street. Breakfast was good, bread ham/cheese cereal. Really good value and lovely viewpoint with bar across square. About 20 min walk to rossio station.

Upon first impression Johnies Place seemed to be a charming, cozy hostel with a friendly and helpful host, however after settling in for the first night of the stay we soon saw a different side to it. From staff members constantly hovering over your actions to the never ending and constantly increasing list of rules and policies which the host...

Their lack of respectful, our problem. Dear guest, as you are commenting for the second time with two different emails, the same situation, i will answer with the same answer. And yes this is a truly regrettable action from you. "I’m very sorry that i made you feel like criminals, but it was not my intention and i do explained...

A truly regrettable experience Distrusting, rude and erratic, the hostel owner goes out of her way to make her guests feel like criminals. Incredibly strict rules, which are not explained upon arrival, are enforced by the staff, who seem to outnumber the guests, who hover and survey their actions. Watching a TV show from a laptop after midnight in the...

A truly regrettable situation. I’m very sorry that i made you feel like criminals, but it was not my intention and i do explained you very well the situation. Johnies Pace rules are the same as all the hostels in the world concerning reservations or booking extensions. To be clear, when you arrived and check-in, you were interested in book...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
