The location is perfect to start walking into the old town. The rooms are ok, our room smelled bit moisty. Despite every floor has it's own WiFi network, it didn't work in the room, it only works in the stairway. At the central area ( the breakfast and reception is on the 1st floor) WiFi works OK (they are working...

We stayed in a private room with four beds but had plenty of space. For those that want the Fado experience, just on the hillside behind the hostel is a plethora of small restaurants sporting Fado music. It's also a short walk to the castle. Parking isn't bad if you get to the pot across the main road. It will...

I book an entire ensuite bedroom and I was quite dissapointed. The good points are that the hostel is within a short walk distance from the center and the personnel are very friendly. Behind the hotel, there is all the noisy restaurants and bars of Alafama, so it's very difficult to sleep the night. The bedroom don't have any air...

Nice hostel for a nice price. Beds are made, a more then decent breakfast is available and the rooms are pretty spacious and clean. All of that for a good price and on a nice location. Great value for a hostel, would definitely recommend it!

We had a triple room for ourselves, with sea view and shared bathroom and kitchen. The place was very clean and looked after. The lounge had nice sofas and tables. The shared areas was always easily accessible as the other guests seemed to never be around, despite it is busy at breakfast time. Breakfast is basic. I have to say...

This was our first option as soon as we got off the train at 8am. The place is adorable and very colorful. The workers are very nice, and will always try to help you even if they don't speak your language. If you don't mind a room "without a view" (which is what they call the rooms overlooking the back...

Just an advice putting a Tv and Wi-fi in rooms, would definately make visitors love the place. The hostel is very owell located, close to the centre, walking distance to Rossio, close to the best Fado bars in Alfama and facing the Teju river. The stuff is very helpful, the breakfast is decent but perfect enough, the common areas are lovely.The...

We stayed in the hostel after realizing the city is pretty packed over Easter and everything we knew was fully booked. There are plenty of great hostels in Lisbon - this isn't one of them. Overpriced, a stinky room, the worst breakfast I had in quite a while, and loud music playing outside the window until 2 a.m.

If you get the room on the 4th floor you'll have a stunning view but you can forget about good night's sleep. Way too noisy. Staff was average as well wouldn't say they were friendly but neither they were rude. Location is good. We wouldn't come again and we wouldn't recommend either.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
