Had dinner in the restaurant. It was EXCEPTIONAL. The barrata was delicious and desserts amazing. You just have to try the creme brulee too. We met the Chef to compliment him and he described where the ingredients were from and why the dishes were created the way they were. The waiters and customer service was five star. The setting quite breathtaking on the Atlantic Ocean. Highly recommend eating here.…
We stayed 7 nights at this nice-located hotel - and had dinner several evenings in the two restaurants at the hotel. Both with super-kitchens - and super service. The hotel recommended trip to Sintra - a great day with a lot of nice views and historical buildings ... hired a tuctuc for 3-4 hours - can recommend it! Another day we went by train (5 min. walk from the hotel - 40 min. by train) to Lissabon - another great city - and with good recommendations from the Farol Hotel. We'll look foreward to visit this hotel again!…
The Farol Hotel was a lovely hotel in a beautiful location overlooking the ocean and only a short walk into the town. From arrival through to departure the service was friendly and polite, the room was very comfortable and immaculately kept and the food onsite delicious. We love boutique small hotels and Farol does have that quality. The only downside is that they do welcome children, which doesn't quite match with the general upmarket ambience when there are kids screaming and splashing in the pool. That and attracting plenty of smokers (with no separate smoking area) by the pool can mean that it is not the most peaceful of boutique hotels we have visited. Another tip to the staff (for the benefit of us vegetarians out there) might be to serve the bacon at breakfast separately to any other foods in a separate dish. Thanks for the stay!…
We booked a weekend stay for our Wedding Anniversary, when we arrived the reception staff were friendly and welcoming, our room was not ready so we decided to have a drink in the pool bar. The setting of the hotel is fantastic, the views superb, the service at the pool bar is poor, very slow. I understand that some staying in a five star resort don't want to be constantly interrupted by staff asking if the food is OK or if they need a drink, but proper training would allow staff to be attentive without being intrusive, and to recognise when their service might be appreciated. When our room was prepared it was for us a disappointment, I know it is a 'design hotel' but we walked into a room which was gloomy and dark - grey, black and red might be contemporary and suit a swish Manhattan hotel but not in an historic building with sea views and next to a historic monument. Walking up the stairs to the room was not a pleasant experience - black walls, black carpets and poor lighting - when coming in from the sun not good, an accident waiting to happen! The restaurant setting is wonderful, breakfast was good - nothing special but good, the staff were again pleasant but not well trained. Very little interaction with guests, right down to removing plates when finished. Sorry but there needs to better customer care and training and for the price advertised no way is it worth it. The drinks and food are expensive and nothing special and the coffee machine in the room, whilst a nice touch, is not free you are charged for coffee!!! The standard of cleaning was poor, glasses and cups left dirty when beds turned down - that is not five star service. The bathroom, 98% matt black from floor to ceiling was depressing, the leatherette covering of headboard and dressing area was ill-fitting and looked 'cheap'. I have stayed in many hotels (in Portugal and worldwide) and complimentary tea and coffee is normally standard. The hotel has potential, but the décor and poor training didn't make it welcoming that we wanted to spend time, other than sleeping, in the hotel. sorry not for me, as a regular traveller I like to have new experiences and stay in different places but and I don't think we would go back to that hotel.…
Really enjoyed our stay, very clean, friendly staff, great pool area and fantastic views.Breakfast was great too.Beautifully situated and very close to town centre and bars, shops, restaurants and beaches.
