This hotel was amazing. Beautiful location. It was built inside an old fort, you would not know from the outside that it was even there. The hotel has been incorporated into the fort very well. We had a ground floor room and it was great to sit outside on the patio/grass for a drink upon returning from our day's excursions. Unfortunately, our stay was cut short by the CoVid-19 pandemic, requiring us to return to Canada sooner than expected. Despite the stress of this event, the hotel staff handled it very well. Breakfast was served to our rooms for two mornings to eliminate the need for social interaction. It was brought on time and the food was sufficient and varied just as it was in the two mornings we were able to go to the buffet. The rooms were cleaned every day and left sparkling. On one afternoon, they provided free cheese and wine in an effort to make our stay (and stress!) better. Despite having to leave early, we had a wonderful time and would definitely return. The staff are to be commended for handling a difficult situation well.…
We just returned from the 7 day vacation to Terceira, We stayed at this beautiful location and after reading the comments within Tripadvisor looked forward to the Pousada experience. It is a very clean modern hotel within the grounds of an old fort situated high on one side of the city. Upon arrival we were assigned room 2004, this was a second floor room tucked into a corner with limited outside lighting, poor circulation, and no access to outside space. I assume the hotel markets this room as a child’s room along with room 2003 as a family suite because of the attached hallway which would work well, but as a standalone room 2004 provides for a very inferior experience. We requested numerous times to be moved to another room to no avail. They indicated they were working on it. We noticed other “similar define rooms as ours (standard) that had sat empty, and after 4 requests and 4 days into our 7 day stay we just gave up. Staff at the front desks inability to acknowledge our concerns would be the reason I cannot and would not recommend this establishment.…
This Hotel is set in the walls of the Fort and he facade is really very impressive. The Hotel sign is easy to miss in he dark it was not lit up and is not large. There is a great deal of nice free parking outside. Reception friendly we arrived there on the Sunday for a formal traditional fado dinner. Guests of the hotel receive a 6 euro discount. Food was amazing staring with a tapas of bread, cheese and olives with a glass of Portuguese fortified wine Port. Followed by all you can consume of red or white Portuguese wine. Fish course was cod a Portuguese favorite and very tasty. Surprisingly they served an entire chicken breast in pastry as the next course it was not and either or situation you get both. Dessert was chocolate apple heaven followed by coffee. Fado entertainment was the same musicians I saw at the little Taberna in town the night before instead of jeans now in suits. Once again the guitar playing and singing were excellent even a little sing along of a refrain. What was missing for me was an explanation of the songs as a tourist ie. This is a love song, this is a sad song etc. Not speaking Portuguese and no explanations meant we were all in the dark on subject matter. A bit more catering to the main tourist clients who were the majority of the room. It was lovely but only necessary a single time not something you would repeat.…
This hotel was an option in our package with azoresgateway.com We were very pleased with the accommodation. Small pousada with about 20+ rooms, restaurant and bar on site; adult and children's pool as well. The pousada is situated in the courtyard of an ancient fort which is situated on a promontory above the port of Angra. Great,as we had peace and quiet and yet it was within a 10 min walk to the city hall in the town below (involving some hilly slopes). We ate at the hotel restaurant about 3 times for dinner including a Fado Night which was excellent value. Breakfast was included daily and it was more than adequate with hot and cold options. We were also able to walk into the town and eat at nearby restaurants/cafes - a great selection. Food is reasonably priced and generally good. We rented a car for trips around the island but beware that country and town roads are very narrow and parking can be a problem especially in town. Gas is expensive (approx. $2.20Cdn/litre) but distances are not great. English was not a problem at the hotel and airport and in many restaurants in town. Out in the country less so. But people are very friendly and eager to help. Staff at this hotel was super. So friendly and willing to help in any way. Shout-out to Pedro in the restaurant who got me some Rice Milk as I could not have regular milk. He provided amazingly fast service. All of the staff were super even though this was not a tipping environment. All in all an excellent stay.…
amazing trip; amazing island; great hotel. We've stayed here for a week in 5/17 and a week in 4/19. Rooms are clean and current, with great views. Included breakfast is soooooo good. Free parking AND an easy walk into town. Highly recommend. We'll be back yet again.
