I stayed at Casa Vitoriana (www.casavitoriana.com) in June 2009 for three nights. The experience was really nice and memorable. I have travelled in over 40 countries all over the world, so I've seen quite a few accommodations. The house was built in 1860s and it is still owned by the same family. We stayed here at the recommendation of our friend Roberto Soares, and were not disappointed a bit! We stayed in the Garden Cottage and at times didn't even realize we were in the middle of the city. The cottage was beautifully appointed with a well-equipped kitchen. Everything we needed was within walking distance. Two small downsides for us is that...

We rented the suite and a garden apartment for a week and found it a very useful base for the centre of town. The suite: the rooms were massive but the (private) bathroom was across the hall (across very creaky floorboards).
